82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

The facts, ah yes the facts. Like the fact we have a worse record with him playing, fact.
The amount of times he plays the wrong pass in situations where we have a man over is ridiculous. It's not his fault - he's got himself forward, but he has little vision.
As you wish to be antagonistic, it was a clear red, completely reckless and dangerous. Even looked like he made a double movement. Naughty.
I agree it was a red. Some strongly disagree. I didn't think it was intentional. But a raised boot that connects with a face is a red everyday regardless of intent.

Do we have a worse record with him? Compared to who?

And I didn't mean to be antagonistic. Was just responding.

Wydad got away with one or two dangerous challenges and Pep was totally pissed off with the decision. As for Rico Lewis, he isn't as talented as Foden but he still has a place in the team. With the extra players signed he doesn't have to involved more times than he should,

As I've made clear, I don't think that Rico belongs in our squad.

That said - he may prove me wrong. He had a decent performance yesterday - and was really unfortunate to be sent off.
You have made it clear. I believe he would make a cracking midfielder. And as you saw in the game he was playing that position well. Unfortunately some of our fans get a downer on certain players. Not you of course?

Hasn't he always been a fullback?
No. His preferred position is midfield. Article from a couple of years ago.

Central midfield may be City’s deepest area of the squad, but Lewis says he his willing to be patient to wait for a chance to become a mainstay in the centre of the park.
“That’s my favourite position I think, even [more than] coming inside from full back,” he told the Manchester Evening News.
“I think playing a bit higher up then defending as a two with Rodri is my favourite [role].
He continued:”I think it’s just all about patience for myself. There are so many world-class players in that dressing room so all I can do my best and learn.
“The opportunities will come and when they do I’ve got to take them. I just have to stay patient.”

Even Pep thinks midfield will be his position. Another article from a couple of years ago.

The City boss also believes that in time Rico Lewis will become an attacking midfielder for Manchester City. Pep added: “I think his position will be attacking midfielder but for now we have a lot of intelligent players there. With him inside, we always had the opportunity to make our process and our game much, much better. Fantastic player, at this early age, he settled really quick and played really good.”

he’s alright but symptomatic of how the standards have dropped. wouldnt have been anywhere near the 2017-2019 squad. probably just in and around to boost the homegrown quota

If he played for any other club in the league I don’t think anyone would be giving a second thought to the notion of signing him for City.

We all want him to do well because he’s an academy product but I think it’s quite obvious he hasn’t quite got the quality to make it as a right back for any of the top teams in Europe, that’s not to say he won’t have a good career at the lower prem/ higher championship clubs.
Nailed it

He probably won’t make it a first-choice player for us, but certainly serves a useful role as a utility squad player who is home grown.

You do know Rico is 20 right?
Well aware of that.

If the juggernaut that is Manchester City wants to reclaim titles then the age of any player shouldn't be a sentiment to them getting games. You're either good enough or you ain't. Regardless of age.

This season ruthlessness needs to be had from Pep.

We learned last season playing an aging Gundo all the time did us no favours. The same should be said with age going the other way.

Just ask yourself. If Rico had made exactly the same performances for say Arsenal and we were bidding upwards of £25 - 35 million. Would you be waxing lyrical about him coming this way?

Think not.

In any successful squad you need players who can fill several roles, not complain when not selected, and importantly are home grown. Lewis ticks all those boxes, and Guardiola clearly values him.

As much as I dislike the analogy, it’s probably a bit like the Phil Neville/John O’Shea/Curtis Jones role.

Didn't notice him lecturing pep on positional stuff as they went off at HT when i watched it live.
