Club World Cup - Summer 2025

The competition has been a mixture of brilliant and farcical due to the weather. I think we have played 26 games now and 5 have been suspended due to weather. We will know from the MLS or other sports as to whether this is usual, and then determine what to do about it. It must be one off weather else the organisers are idiots for selecting those stadia.

The end to the Chelsea game was incredible. I am so glad I persisted with it. Amazing. Chelsea fans veins will be flooded with adrenaline.

I think it will mean we have a stronger start than we normally have but will tire towards the end of the season.
Hopefully we build up enough of a lead by March so it doesn't matter too much
I feel like they have more competence after the starting XI right now. I'd say punt the league cup, build up a lead in the league and manage the group in CL, they can do that and still be relatively fresh after Christmas.

Staring XI
Ederson
Ait-Nouri
Gvardiol
Dias
O'Reilly
Bernardo
Rodri
Reijnders
Savinho
Haaland
Doku

Next XI
Ederson
Ake
Stones
Akanji
Nunes
Kovacic
Nico
Cherki
Foden
Bobb
Marmoush

Still available: Khusanov, Ilkay (for now), Rico, Echeverri, McAtee, Reis

I know they're going to ship some guys but there will be plenty of depth for rotation. They can even rest Rodri and still have coverage against some teams.

Enzo Maresca seems to agree with me.

I do too in respect to the impact of the weather. But that's not an argument against the Club World Cup, it's an argument against the US hosting it. I don't know enough about USA sport to know how common thunderstorms in the Southern states are. They have become very common at this World Cup.

I don't really have a problem with the tournament itself, but there really doesn't seem to be much appetite for any of these games. The turnout has been pretty tepid.

Hope so. That would trigger the usual suspects
The hope is real. The top half of the draw is significantly easier on paper than the bottom. The commitment levels are significant and there are the hazards of tournament football such as sendings off and penalty hand balls, but it looks beautiful from a City perspective.

Just seen the highlights. That was one of the worst handball decisions I've ever seen.

Only averaging 34,000 !!
Yeah, just watched the Chelsea highlights and there can't have been more than a thousand behind the goal for their winners. I know it was massively delayed and went to extra time, so perhaps people had to leave early, but it wasn't a good look. It was probably a mistake to host it in the US. It seems like it would be tailor-made for a southern hemisphere country, especially one of the South American teams. But I guess it's supposed to be a test for the World Cup.
