31 | Ederson - 2025/26

The hard part is “Which one should he have saved?”

Even if you shop 4 goals, if you can’t be blamed for any of them, then…

Their keeper shipped 3, but was their MOTM!!

The first goal he could have held the low cross instead of pushing it into danger.

Second, the only blame is to the defence (or the setup).

Third.... I think a top keeper gets their fingers to that header instead of waving at it as it goes past.

Fourth... I think he's unlucky tbh.

I think the main problem I have, is that this wasn't a particularly poor Ederson performance. He has his upsides, yes, but in terms of old fashioned goalkeeping, this was his normal level. So this is what we usually see game after game. It isn't really a high enough standard. His footballing skills help us dominate and control against weaker teams, but in big games, knockout games, someone who is a level above could make a huge difference.

He's been shocking with the ball at his feet in this tournament as well, putting us under pressure needlessly. The first goal he should have been able to parry away from danger and the third he should have saved. He came for the ball then hesitated and went back to his line then just watched the ball go past him. They didn't create a huge amount and when you think of the top keepers out there I think they probably save the two I've mentioned and potentially the 1 v 1 chance they had for their second goal.

It sounds harsh, but it's going to keep costing us success. If his passing was faultless and helping the team win I could understand it. But Al Hilal were well organised - they didn't let that long ball happen. So Ederson is back to being a traditional goalkeeper and he's simply not good enough and hasn't been for a while now.

Totally agree.

He's not the only keeper who can play football any more, and when that part of his game doesn't go well and isn't a strength, then overall he becomes a liability.

I've cut him some slack but the issues have been there for a long time. In big games he does struggle to be the calm and composed figure we need. His passing is often bizarre where he picks a more challenging ball, putting someone under pressure, instead of the easy pass to an open player with time. The CL final - one of his best performances for us, included a sloppy pass straight to Barella in the first half and that mix up with Akanji where he then had to smother the ball.

We're a team, but in the same way Haaland can score 30 goals a season but be challenged for his workrate or ability to hold the ball up, Ederson should be compared to his peers. If last night was a one off you'd forgive and forget, but it's becoming more frequent that not only does he fail to make some saves you'd expect for a keeper at a club like ours but he also gives the ball away and puts us in danger.

I was dreading it going to pens because I don't trust Ederson and I think we'd have gone out which is even more painful than going out in ET.

I can only recall him saving 2 pens for us which is piss poor. As good as he is with his distribution he's pretty poor one one one and I think we should be looking for at least one new keeper. I don't think his heart is at City anymore.

cant be arsed anymore. cash in before he leaves for nothing.
I don’t think we can - that’s why he said he’s staying. Don’t think any Saudi club is paying his transfer fee plus wages. They’re just waiting for him to be a free transfer.

Well, go on then. The header he had no chance, the one on one where our set up from our own corner was Sunday league stuff. The other header he did well to actually save.So the only one was the cross shot he parried but i’m struggling to think of a modern keeper who doesn’t do that. Not trying to say he’s a great actual goalkeeper by the way.

I’m sorry but parry it anywhere but the middle of the goal. Both keepers not at the required level.

I don't think it's really about having a good or bad game it's about trends and Ederson seems to be very much on a downward trajectory. it could be the time to look for a new keeper that can also read the game better and act as a semi sweeper if we are going to keep playing a high line.

The first goal he could have held the low cross instead of pushing it into danger. He wasn't stretching and it wasn't that hard.

I'm trying to be objective and fair, I think that is. I think saying he could do nothing about any is being kind. I think Courtois, Donnarumma and a good few other top keepers save that header.
