Club World Cup - Summer 2025

I was never a fan of this tournament, from a perspective of never ending games, financial overkill, player burnout, Americanisation and so forth, but i always want City to win no matter what the game is.

However, we have finally entered the 'off-season', or summer or whatever you call it where you're from, and I have to say i feel relief. This state of perma-football is a constant creep and it'll be nice to get away from it for 2 months.

I have a feeling that this CWC was something people were really hoping would expunge the disappointing (and somewhat repeatedly so) performances of last season with a new look, fast exciting team. I can understand that. A lot of us wanted to see some 'old' Pep, the vim and panache after a bit of a trying season.

I think reality bites; things aren't generally fixed with some new signings and 3 or 4 games. They need a break, then some training, and a new season. I think it'll come good but go out and enjoy the sunshine :)
I think the back room staff need to get a grip of Pep, he’s too loyal and his tactics with the personnel he’s got clearly don’t work anymore, we see, I think the players see it, the only one is Pep. We has some good young players, if we take next season as one where we don’t win anything but at least get CL qualification he needs to get Kush, Nico etc integrated into the team, time to fuck off Gundo, Bernie (unfortunately), Akanji, Stones and possibly one or two others taking a back seat. It will be a roller coaster ride but the more they play with each other the better we will get. The defence is a major worry we cannot play a highline it’s fucking suicide with our current personnel, be pragmatic step back and I’m sure we will be ok.

Playing football in the opponent half is as you say challenging for the defence. I don't want City to change tactics. I am hoping a fit Rodri, or Kovacic, and the return of Stones will fix City.

In June, we brought in offensive players, who made an impact, but we haven't made changes defensively other than bringing in Ries and Khusanov who are 'ones for the future'. Ait Nouri has come in too but I would say he's a left-sided player rather than an out and out defender.

I think I was over hopeful about progressing quickly possibly due to the early goals and talk of a new season, new City.

Now we’ve been knocked out have the CWC apologists admitted to themselves it was an absolute waste of time?

I took this view - that the CWC was a joke - but as the tournament progressed - I totally changed my mind. All sides seem to have taken this tournament very seriously - and the CWC has featured numerous exciting games and unexpected upsets.

The CWC - based on what I've watched - and based on the prize money - and based on how seriously each participating club is taking the tournament - is absolutely not a waste of time.

It's a shame that Man City didn't progress - but I'll be sure to watch the upcoming CWC games with anticipation and excitement.

Could end up like the early days of the World Cup. Odd winners from teams that took it seriously. Ive enjoyed watching south american teams v the traditional European teams.

Mate Stones is done and Kov won’t get a sniff next season. We need a new Walker a fucking speed merchant, that lad saved us more times than we will ever know, it allowed us to push so high because he could recover we can’t do that now. What we saw the Saudi team do is what every team apart maybe Liverpool and Arsenal in the premier league do, sit and counter it’s laughable, even look at the free kicks we push up that high that any decent ball over us between the line and the keeper is inviting trouble, they did it twice and nearly scored, why! Just step upto the 6 yeard box less space to put the ball into and give Ederson a chance to get it, rather than hope for an offside or Ederson running ten yards to punch it!
We said it last season numerous times the game has moved on, Peps system does not work unless he has the players and clearly in defence he doesn’t, so fucking adapt or we will end up like last season regardless of injuries.

Bingo mate, in a nutshell.

It’s possible to be a footy fan and a City fan. City getting knocked out has no effect on my opinion on the tournament which I continue to enjoy.

Thanks for your concern though.

Probably just saying that because we went out, im sure they wouldnt of been saying it was a waste of time if we went and won it and came back with the 100 mil prize money and added a club world cup to our name. We could off done with winning it tbh after the shit show of last season.

May I ask a serious question. do people think Pep doesn’t understand the problem and everyone on here knows the answer? If so, should we come together and write a great letter and have it published in a major newspaper.

The problem is being dogmatic and Wenger is the poster boy for what happens if you stock too rigidly to a philosophy when the results decline.

I don't think the new signings are helping him though, it reminds me of team in decline signings, a few decent one them your Mkhitaryan and Monreal types, who maybe decent players but a down grade also.
