Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

We sucked because our defense was in shambles. Plus it wasn't always Rodri and Gundo. We had midfield depth and Pep tried numerous solutions.

I remember well that Pep was often criticized for starting them both, some thought he was mad.. :)) The usual complaint: they are slow, immobile, etc.

We have to keep some of the old guard who have won it all - to guide and instill the winning mentality into the new players

No problem with Bernardo staying and being captain. He has ran through brick walls to get us the trophies. Yes he may have list pace, but his quality is still there

That said, its others like akanjie, dias, ake, stones (always bloody injured) amongst others who need to step up and start performing this coming season

That includes Pep in terms of changing how we attack and defend

Hope not mate as he has done nowhere enough . Enrique or nagelsman
What has nagelsman done that Kompany hasn't? Kompany has worst players in his squad and injuries. With better players he would be amazing.

Nope not from what I've seen, he is let down by poor players and injuries at Bayern but his playstyle is really good. With better players he would be amazing

he has done an ok job so far, bayern is on a transition phase too, muller and sane out, gnabry and coman have declined, their defense is suspect in terms of quality..

Nagelsman has not convinced me yet, he has great press and the boy genius label but whenever i watch his teams in big games they tend to falter and he is also from the red bull school of thought with a lot of running, duels and chaos that i dont personally love

edit - In relation to pep, since this is his topic, historically coaches dont last more than 5 to 10 years at the top of the game...even older ones like ancelotti and klopp have big gaps where they won feck all. Its a super demanding job to coach these big teams with big egos and pressure, so its really easy to burn out. No one knows if pep is over the hill or not but hes too obsessed and competitive to be ok with finishing third back to back years and make little to no progress.

So, i wouldnt worry either way, when he feels he cant do better or has lost the motivation to coach city he will leave. He did it at barcelona and bayern and it took a lot of convincing to still be with city. So yeah, this last season was pretty rough on him too specially in the league cause he is the best to ever do it in league football, his teams are usually points machines and to be out of it by december took a toll i imagine, because he takes special pride on doing well there. Still i think he will want to leave on a high if possible but enjoy cause you wont have a better coach than him

Maybe Pep keeps playing Gundo and Bernardo as we don't have another midfielder that can play there? Reijnders was signed and he came straight into the team. I do think Pep really wanted Gibbs White.

Peps ideal midfield would be Reijnders - Rodri - Gibbs White. I dont think he trusts anyone else in midfield so goes back to Gundo and Bernardo. The reports were that Pep really rates Gibbs White and Reijnders.

I agree, last one and the one coming up. We don't have to win a single thing but we damn well better be truly competitive on all fronts with the amount of talent assembled and the money we've spent. Barring catastrophic injuries there's absolutely zero reason why we shouldn't be a top side...

You've always hated Pep though? Here is what you thought of him during the treble season:

White should still be possible if Gundo AND MAYBE Kovacic leave.

I'd say what most irks me about pep is it seems incredibly hard to earn his trust, but equally incredibly hard to lose it. Akanji has not been good for a long time, but because he initially won him over he can make as many mistakes as he wants. Whereas a McAtee or an O reilly or a Khusanov end up in the phantom zone for 6 months for one misplaced pass.

Bernardo can have 10 poor games in a row and keep his place, Nico G can't have 10 bad minutes. I find it annoying, even when we were winning.

So questions can't be asked? C'mon with this nonsense. You guys take it way too personal. It's not THAT serious...
Problem is a lot of fans including provably Afew on here are putting pep actually bigger than the club itself and that the world will fall in if he leaves . Peps legacy will go down as the greatest and he will go in the history books for us to look back on when we are older but here is now abc we need him to reinvent and cone back again which during this he cwc he started to but in the game that mattered he went back to his tried formula which doesn’t work no more . No one wants him to go big if he does then we will be fine .

Worse. Much worse. We got knocked out of the... Club World Cup?
Whatever our views on Pep or the club, the last 2 years when it comes to transfers - in and out - have not been good. The slick City of 2016-2022 is not how we operate right now.

Spending £130 on average / ok midfielders (Phillips, Nunes, Kova) and now question marks over a £52m January signing.

We rarely use to get out transfer business wrong. The last few years, I think other than Haaland, Alvrez and Josko - the rest have been a downgrade on players they’ve replaced.

I hope Viana turns it around. This summer has been promising.

Wow if we can buy OK midfielders for £130 - what a bargain!

With all those average midfielders and lack of slick operation post 2022 I wonder how we won the premier league in 2022-23 and 2023-24, champions league in 2022-23 and finished (an admittedly disappointing) third last year.

As I said above you would think City had been relegated!
