The Labour Government

And that it is important that our ethnicity is celebrated and protected. Thousands of years of culture, history and tradition is not something trivial to be tossed away and lost forever.

And yet if I were to fly a Union Jack outside my house, I'd likely be branded as a racist white supremacist.

Parts of the UK now more closely resemble Pakistan. I am not racist. I have nothing against Pakistani people. I like Pakistani people. But I do not want to live in Pakistan. I don't want our high streets to look like Pakistan.

And there I was, thinking Pakistan looked a bit like the Arndale

Worth a watch if you are unfamiliar with it.

I'm not watching it. Does he explain why the rich are so selfish and unpatriotic, and that they can't take it with them?

Tells us EVERYTHING we need to know.
No it doesn't. Even if you think the Laffer Curve has some validity, it doesn't mean you can't get more revenue from increasing taxes. (In its own terms, that would depend on where current tax rates are on the Curve.)

Just so we are all aware that in the 8 years kneecap have been gigging there's never ever any issues at their shows.Never any crowd issues, never any venue issues...Speak out against Israel and suddenly there's high-profile resources deployed across England/Scotland for every show - why?

To recap. You literally live in a unitary political State of four countries with no internal borders. We, as a country, live next door to a free trade area of thirty countries with distinctive cultures and languages and no internal borders.

Again, I ask nicely, with sprinkles on top, what the fuck are you talking about?

Having a specific ethnic group in a single geographical location does not a nation state make. Look at how Italy and Germany became nation states, or how the USA, a country of immigrants, became a single nation with its on and off struggles for a more perfect union. Outside of North Korea I can't think of any other single ethnic group mono-culture country.

Ethnicity, to varying degrees, does play a part in nation building, but Internal politics, geopolitics, religion, language, geography, natural resources are all major players. Some countries are lucky like Australia others are not like Poland and Ukraine. As for the UK it hangs together because its constituent parts are more invested in it continuing than not, if that changes it falls apart, as it did with Ireland.

But if ethnicity is the sole determinant of statehood you have balkanisation....

the process involving the fragmentation of an area, country, or region into multiple smaller and hostile units. It is usually caused by differences in ethnicity, culture, religion, and geopolitical interests.

Too often these states struggle.

In the break up of empires after the First World War, there was a rush for self determination along ethnic lines, many of these freshly minted countries were simply too weak and were subsequently swept away or subsumed by the Nazis and the Soviet Union. After the Second world war 12 million Germans were forcibly displaced to prevent a future blood and soil lunatic from ever using their presence in neighbouring countries to invade, yet here we have Putin riding into Ukraine to save ethnic Russians from being persecuted.

Friends with big guns and deep pockets are essential for small countries uncomfortably close to big bad faith actors. That's why the Baltic States cling to NATO and EU membership and why Putin demands that never happens in Ukraine.

There can be no denying that ethnonationalism has proven dangerous, so dangerous in fact that progressives have concocted the novel solution that ethnicity itself must (selectively) cease to exist, that if they never talk about it, or if they do it's entirely in terms of critical race theory or the struggle for self determination for whatever the latest fashionable race happens to be, then progressives can, by dictating the terms and language used, win the day. Obviously anyone who strays outside these terms, or questions the veracity of critical race theory is a racist. And with that settled the unstoppable march of progress can proceed until the glorious day when we'll all become globalist citizens of nowhere.

This view doesn't extend to all ethnic groups of course. Ethnic minority culture is celebrated, but that's because critical race theory, intersectionality and all that bollocks tells us these groups are the oppressed and the oppressors are white folk like Churchill who hated the darkies, all white folk it seems are collectively guilty of all sorts of historical shite, real or imagined

As for the left's made up confection multiculturalism, which replaced the more accurate but despised phrase multi ethnic, it destroys the very fabric of long standing states by denying the existence of a dominant mainstream culture. But in the absence of a dominant mainstream culture then integration is impossible as there's nowt to integrate with. Meanwhile the history of that non-existent dominant culture is trashed as nothing more than exploitation with its roots in racism.

So while the left fucks around with this issue, with talk of more immigration and open borders to show what virtuous anti racist citizens of the world they are, the right wing have a fucking field day. They wrap themselves in the flag, talk of how unpatriotic the left are, how they trash our history and how they despise the white working class and they get traction coz there's more than a grain of truth in it. While the left talks to itself and pats itself on the back coz it wins all the arguments by virtue of never having any with anyone they disagree with, a bunch of chancers like Reform have become the most popular political party in the country.

I used to think folk like you simply didn't get how the world really is, but now I think you do, your real problem is you can't sell any of your solutions, coz in your world you've already solved them by not talking about them, denying they exist, mangling the English language to dictate the terms of reference so that it becomes difficult to even articulate a counter view without drawing opprobrium and accusations of racism, cancelling, or the threat of the latest wheeze the non hate crime incident.

I despise the right, I've always despised them, but I'm politically homeless now having fallen out of love with the left, I can't stand their sanctimonious twattery anymore, their group think and their authoritarianism.

To be progressive, another Orwellian confection, I mean who can argue with progress? Is to be stupid, not actually stupid, like stupid people are, but manufactured stupidity. A deliberate rejection of critical thinking in order to accommodate and espouse things that are patently not true and even some things that have no basis whatsoever in material reality.

There are currently 31 countries within the Schengen zone. That’s 450 million people who travel freely between countries without border controls. And your response? A Roma family moving in next door. I’m not sure what is more revealing. The whiff of racism or your rank stupidity.

For starters you actually live in a country with open borders and free movement. It’s called the United Kingdom. You may have heard of it. Four countries that have no restrictions on movement or border controls. Fun Roma fact. There are around 200,000 Roma people living in this unregulated, border less United Kingdom. Now don’t panic, I’m sure none will be keen on living next door to you. Stick a poster in your window advertising who you are. I’m sure they will stay clear and count themselves fortunate.

What else? Given the Schengen zone was expanded in January this year and will soon include Cyprus, European countries seem happy enough with the scrapping of internal border controls. I note your stupidity extends to being unable to distinguish between the internal and external borders of the Zone, the latter being controlled, and sometimes shamefully so.

Finally, I assume you will be leaving our border less and unregulated United Kingdom as the chances of a Scottish, Welsh or Irish family moving in next door to you must be alarmingly high.

Anyway, toodle pip for now. This has been fun.
So your answer to the challenge of how that you personally would react to a Roma family being moved in next door to you is to not answer the question and deflect it by of all things comparing a Roma family to a Scottish, Welsh or Irish family and somehow trying to make a point sound valid that there are no borders between the home countries, which there haven't been for centuries - it's like saying we you are all living with gravity don't you know , ffs we have known nothing else. Quite how anyone has actually risen to this nonsense on here today is beyond me.
A couple of years ago I was driving, had the radio on, 5 Live. For whatever reason the host had Alistair Campbell on air together with some guy from the CBI. He then brought on an ordinary guy who by trade was a bathroom fitter. The host invited him to describe the impact of the Eastern European migrant wave after EU expansion in 2004. The guy said in a really clear and calm manner that he was an independent bathroom fitter, Labour voter, was doing ok for himself, mortgage, wife kids etc. Around 2006 his business just dropped off a cliff due to price competition from Polish tradesmen. He just couldn't compete, he had a mortgage to pay, family to look after. The Polish guys were living 10 to a house in shared rooms, minimum overheads, all cash etc . Long story short, lost his business, lost his house, family, depression, unemployed etc. Host handed over to Alistair Campbell, I have never heard that **** struggle for something to say in my life, except right then, it was like it was the first time he had ever had to speak to someone whose life he had helped to fuck up, he blustered and then tried to blame the CBI guy for the CBI pressuring the government for more immigration.
What would you have said to that guy Bob? Well Mr Bathroom fitter, there are no borders between England, Scotland,Wales and Ireland you know ! What a load of bollocks.

As for 200,000 Roma living in the UK being a " fun Roma fact" , I am very sure that the people in the established communities that the Roma have been moved into en masse don't find anything ' fun " about it at all. Go and ask the people of Page Hall in Sheffield how much " fun" they are having with their Roma neighbours.
FFs Bob, smug and crass doesn't do that justice.

So, as it's " fun " with the Roma, I will ask you again, Roma family moved next door to you. Will you go round and welcome them to the road with a nice bottle of Red and a bunch of flowers ? Or will you be on the phone to the bloody council ?
Would you organise some integration classes for them so hopefully they would refrain from spitting , defacating and urinating in your drive ? Or would you be on Rightmove?

As for your other deflection, the Schengen story, and the assertion that European countries " seem happy enough with the scrapping of border controls" I see @Chippy_boy has already correctly responded that many are certainly not happy . That is indeed the case but you may need to see it in the Guardian so you know its right ...

Thats only a couple of days old, It's falling apart ( Love the Guardian - Far right protests)

So, come on , would you practice what you preach and welcome those Roma onto your road?

So why didn't you say that in your previous post? That previous post implied that immigration was a wholly bad thing and that multiculturalism doesn't work.
Because I don't believe it should be relevant mate.
Why should anyone who wishes to express concerns about the any aspect of immigration somehow after justify that first by providing some evidence that they are not a racist.
It is not racist to be concerned and people should be able to speak freely, if people had spoken freely these last 20 years and our politicians had listened we would have a better integrated society and Reform would be a fringe party.

That’s great .
I am married to a Greek, the best man at my wedding came to the UK with his parents who were Ugandan Asians . My sisters partner is Ghanian and my nephew is of mixed race . My neighbours either side of me are Jewish , opposite are Indian. I have worked in and around North London for the best part of 40 years and many colleagues and good friends who are Muslims of various countries of origin . My personal life is conspicuous for good relations with people of all ethnicities, my daughter is human rights lawyer ffs ( oh what fun we have ) but so what ?
Does that make me oblivious to what I can see all around Western Europe?
Does that make me impervious to the fact that others lives are been blighted by migration ?
Does that mean I cannot see that out public finances, Health service, infrastructure cannot cope ?
No it doesn’t .
Just an observation, but if you are as happy to live among human beings just as much as I am, then maybe your beef lies elsewhere.

I'll be honest. I've never got a handle on which side of the political fence you stand on. I honestly can't work it out.

From my viewpoint, 14 years of austerity and right wing propaganda from the press has reduced this country into an abyss of political populism that has nothing to do with improving the lives of the general population, but more concerned with making the lives of other sections of society worse.

Chippy or Brewsters ?

Not a bad day for me. No wealth tax would touch me at all. I just think they are a terrible idea, financially, politically and morally..They don't raise much money; they hugely discourage rich people from coming to the UK with a big fat "Beware!" sign hanging over the country; And it's a retrospective tax, changing the rules AFTER people have made their lifestyle choices, which is not on. A bit like saying to jumior doctors (say), we're adjusting your pay for the years 2010 to 2015 so you owe us £10k each.

Also I happen to think "the rich" are taxed enough already. It doesn't mean I am rich. Something people on here seem to struggle to get their heads around.

If Thieves wants to raise more tax she should put up the basic rate 2p and then everyone can chip in.

The fact you think someone should be on a 'side' is probably the biggest problem we have, why should anybody fit in a box and all their views fit into a convenient pattern of left or right. The reason this board has so much nonsense is posters being constantly in defence mode for the ideology they think they belong to.
