A bit surprised England chose to bat, back in the day if b&h cup and NatWest cup it was always the fine thing to bowl first as the wicket always helped the bowlers early doors. Mind you I am an FOC and it was 30 plus years ago. What does Crawley have to do to get dropped (prove me wrong son) and Bethell is too talented not to play

We have to get our heads around that Crawley will stay till after the Aussies series

Probably, I just hope he deserves it. Been pretty poor so far today

I feel like England are happy with the partnership. With the combination of a right and left hander and the vast height difference with Duckett it's quite tricky to bowl to them consistently as you're constantly changing field positions and feeling like you need to adjust bowling lengths/angles to each of them.

For me, Crawley just needs to do his own thing more. Duckett plays at pretty much everything but is typically more solid. Crawley seems to be happy to leave a few but will then flail at one, as if it's T20 or ODI cricket.

England have been a better team and it doesn't feel like Stokes is too concerned by individual scores whilst the team are doing well.

I would expect things stay the same until after the Ashes. Bethell has to get in there somewhere for me - he's special. But I don't know how you'd fit him in right now. Our bowling attack is the bigger concern.

I think Bethell for either Crawley or Pope but then someone else needs to open if Crawley is dropped. Interesting to see Archer back and Wood on the way back - both fast but both liable to pull up after 2 overs

Could Bethel replace Bashir? Both are mediocre spinners.

As I said, the bowling attack is a big concern. I don't really get why Sam Cook has come in and not played. He's possibly a couple of mph too slow, but he'd extract the movement from the ball which is what India have done so far. He's been the best bowler in County cricket over a long period and he bowled well with the Lions in Oz.

Bethel could certainly replace Bashir, but obviously we'd be better replacing him with a proper bowler! Unless our plan of action is just to let the opposition score as many runs as they want and then chase them down!

Crawley got a good one but India bowlers are so good and stokes seem to only win the toss when really you be better losing them all!

Bowl doing a lot it seems now! We get 300 be good seeing as how we been batting

Root’s a better spinner than Bashir. We could get by with Root and Bethel as our spinners.

Agreed on Cook. We ditched Anderson for the future. That seems to be a 36 year old Woakes!

Agreed. If Bashir struggled for wickets but could tie up an end to benefit the other bowlers I could understand it. But there's at least one bad ball an over which relieves all pressure. I generally like the approach of Stokes and McCullum in giving players time to build confidence. Fear of failure wasn't getting us anywhere. But I'm not sure quite what they see in Bashir personally. Ahmed would be another shout, although too early for him to come back, in my opinion. Open and spin, drop Bashir for Bethell.

Let’s see how Bashir bowls on a fourth or fifth day!

I’d keep him in the side I can see his improvements, isn’t he 21/22? Newzealand do this remember Daniel Vettori debut at 18 ended up playing 113 test matches in 9 years! He was like Bashir raw and ended up getting 362 wickets 4.500 runs! Yeah Bashir be lucky to get 1500 runs in that time! My point being stick with the kid he will get better spin bowlers always get better with experience learning there trade! I love his attitude to a very confident lad and gives some back at the batters..
