Was chatting with someone who has decent contacts at the Joie stadium and they reckon that Roebuck’s dad hates City due to how they treated Roebuck in her recovery. Sounded a bit Paul Lake esque.

I asked if they thought it was a club or Taylor problem and they said both.

They also said that the women can only use the gym at the CFA between 7 and 9.

Hopefully a change of manager and the new women’s building will change ethos and morale.
So much for the 'holistic' approach.

I agree with your last paragraph. Hopefully that investment will make a huge difference.

The new purpose built building should help greatly in that respect which, iirc, shold be open sometime this coming season (not been on the lookout for any updates so can't confirm that's still the case). Includes a high-performance gym and hydrotherapy area too.

I came across this pair when I was looking into whether/where Beney/Lohmann would play in the Euros.

For those interested here's their Season Review

They pretty much nail it particularly at the 5 minute mark when they berate our transfer dealings last summer. Last summer was the time to go big in the market - now we're having to play catch-up from a position of weakness.

Arsenal about to break the women's world transfer record and make the first £1million player in signing Liverpool's Olivia Smith...

Unfortunately I think this is a great signing. Think she will complement Russo really well.

Only upside is I hope them spending a £1m on her means they won't go and buy the CDM they desperately need.

I stopped watching when he said “….didn’t think Gareth Taylor deserved sacking.” In my opinion, the major error that City did with the women’s team was keeping Gareth Taylor for too long, including renewing his contract in the middle of the 23-24 season. Shortly after that the team failed to win the league when we lost 1-2 to Arsenal, and we were up 1-0 until the 89th minute. If we were able to get only one point that day, we were going to win the league. This is an ideal scenario for a good coach to excel, but we knew he was never going to excel. I think some decision-makers at the club also knew that, yet they kept supporting him and renewed his contract. Gareth Taylor should have been sacked at the end of the 23-24 season, but it was impossible to do that because the club just renewed his contract a few months earlier. Amateurish handling of this coach’s situation. I am looking forward to see him at Liverpool. They finished 7th last season, and it won’t be surprising they end up fighting relegation or even worse, getting relegated. Of course some random expert online or on YouTube will say: Taylor is genius, Liverpool struggled because they lost Olivia Smith to Arsenal or because some players got injured, etc.

Fair enough.

They are on the same page as me with regards to recruitment.

In a congested field, Iman Beney could be heading for pole position in the "signings that make little sense" field.

She's looked okay for Switzerland in the Euros (the first 2 more so than the 3rd), but I'm struggling to see where she's getting minutes next year. At right back she's got Casparij and Shimizu ahead of her, and we already have small, diminutive right-sided forwards in Fujino and Park (with Kerolin to fill in if they are both out or deployed elsewhere).

We still need a left back, and even with the Lohmann signing I still think we're light in midfield. Any how, we will have to see where we are in September.

Agree that we don't seem desperate for Beney right now but I wouldn't be surprised if a change of system comes into play under Jeglertz. Plus she might have just been signed as one for the future anyway. If we go three at the back and use wingbacks then Beney might end up being a better option than Casparij. That's before we even get into the fact that we need a couple of options for every position given how common injuries are. With Shimizu, obvs we haven't seen anything of her yet but i believe she can also do a turn at DM so we might intend to use her a bit differently.

With Park, historically she was a winger and Sarina still uses her there but she hasn't really played there for us regularly for a long time. Plus with Roord going I think she'll be back in the mix to play at 10 more frequently. Fowler has played RW a lot more than Park lately and she's going to be out for a long time. That only really leaves Fujino as an out and out RW (and she'll go to the Asia cup in January)

I think we've signed a few players who can be flexible as to where they play and cover a couple of positions.

Agree we still feel a bit light in midfield but surely we bought Blinkilde Brown and Oyama with the intention of using them at some point.

Leftback is an absolute must for me now. Unless the powers that be have seen enough of O'Hanlon to think she could step up and actually stay fit (I'd prefer a more ready made option myself)

@Mon Autre
Agree about the possible change of system - I feel like if we went to 3 at the back Casparij is more of a right-sided centre-back than the wing-back, so both could play in that formation.

There's a lot of other permutations possible though.

Yeah i think Casparij and Shimizu would be the RCBs.

The Wales left wing-back Lily Woodham is available on a free, as her contract with Seattle Reign is up very shortly (although she was on loan at Palace). She'll be talking to other clubs when she's back from the Euros. We should be looking at her.

She's 24 with loads of potential. I've watched her a few times and she's definitely WSL standard. I know that Leah Williamson is a big fan of hers.

If she played in the NWSL, she is WSL standard. I reckon those are the top two women's teams in the world.

I was thinking about it from Beney's point-of-view: ok she's only 18 years old, but she's a regular for Swiss and seemed to be pivotal for Young Boys. It could be a step backward, or alternatively Fujino gets injured and then suddenly she's playing all the time...

It's a very difficult balancing act to have a squad big enough to handle injuries and small enough to keep everybody happy. We've lost 5-6 players in the last 3 years just because of "lack of game time". Hopefully AJ will rotate more than Taylor did. (Though I did notice out of curiosity, that he only made 3 changes for the dead rubber against Poland.)
