Oasis reunion

A few of us are going next Saturday.

For those that have been so far how mental is it to go for a few pints in town before walking up? Is everywhere hammered?

Likewise are the fun police stopping people drinking a few cans on the way up to Heaton park?

I’m imaging it’s a bit like going to Wembley…!

The reunion is so much bigger than anyone could have expected
Number one and two in album charts
Sold out five nights (could easily be 10) in Manchester
Hottest weekend of the year and hundreds watching from the fields outside
Most importantly the band and the fans are embracing it and everyone having a great time
The amount of under 30s is crazy
Wish I had a quid for every oasis T shirt sold
People forget that’s what oasis did first time round as well
Their legacy is well and truly cemented

It is. It’s great that there are so many young people at the gigs.

We drank some cans at Ancoats Square. Some people were playing Oasis on a speaker. It was fine. We walked up via a few pubs no problem. Obviously the weather helped. No chance of a pub by the park unless pre-booked.

Comparing New Order to Oasis is like arguing whether cheddar cheese is better than chocolate ice cream.

Completely different music and a pointless discussion.

Zeitgeist.

New Order were born from music reflecting the gloomy, dark period of the late 1970s (Warsaw/Joy Division), and represented a brighter, modern technological world (Kraftwerk, Can, etc).

Before long, mamy bands (lucky enough to be signed by record companies) began to sound the same. As it was pre-punk, the big labels were deciding/determining what the public 'needed' to hear...

Alan McGee recognised that Oasis had the spirit of Rock and Roll and punk. Brash, fresh, and in your face. They were a million miles away from the polished, sterile, sound that record companies were promoting. Oasis were a kick up the arse... exactly what 1990s music needed.

Leap forward to 2025 and after 15 years of plastic, manufactured trash coming from the likes of X factor etc, the Gallagher brothers decide that the time is right to wake up a new generation of kids to Rock and Roll.

They don't even need to write new material... they've got a selection of songs that stand the test of time. They are The Beatles, they are Elvis, they are Led Zeppelin...

New Order...? Compared to Oasis, they're not even Freddie and the Dreamers.

We are witnessing musical history... A bunch of scruffs from Burnage really are one of the biggest bands in the world, ever.

Sit back, accept itfor what it is, and enjoy it.

I don’t disagree with any of that.

I’ve seen oasis before and I’m going to see them next week.

I’ve seen New Order several times too.

They’re different bands and comparing one to the other makes no sense whatsoever. That’s the point I was very clearly making.

Oasis are not even in the top 30 British acts for worldwide record sales. They're nowhere near one of the biggest bands in the world ever.

Great post mate and spot on.
They sound fantastic and the support has seen another generation of Oasis fans take the reins.
I hope they release some new stuffs as a bit of a memory for these reunion gigs.

Prefer the Railway.
Proper pub unlike the numerous bars up Burton Road that sell overpriced craft ale.
No craft ale but back in the day you could buy anything in the Midland (before it became the trendy Met). I spent a lot of my mispent youth in there because my mate worked behind the bar and gave me free drinks. It was an interesting customer-base in those days to put it mildly. Burton Road was yet to be gentrified!

Can someone with knowledge of Gallagher hill send a what three words of its location or say exactly where it is. Cheers.

Please does anybody know how low the prices on viagogo went right before last night's gig? Wondering to take a punt on going and buying a ticket at last minute if it drops to a reasonable amount. Appreciate there will be demand dynamic pricing etc.

Fair opinion, but both can work imo. I went sam fender other week, he spoke out in support of Palestine, I felt that was a positive and it didn’t dampen the mood or ruin the gig. Same for those at Glastonbury.
Sam Fender is bloody fantastic in my view. No one has captured the mood of "broken Britain" like he has. His music speaks for the abandoned areas of this country. Some have called him the British Springsteen and if he keeps going for another 10 years he might become worth that accolade.

Joy Division were post punk. They formed after seeing a Sex Pistols gig.

Oasis are an incredible live band and always have been. The body of music produced by bands from Manchester is astonishing really. We are luck to have lived to see all these bands.

Is this the closest to Beatlemania in the UK since The Beatles ?
Beatlemania was more of a teenage girl thing. But it did happen all over the country everytime they played.
Comparing Oasis reforming and selling out a few stadiums to The Beatles isn't really the same.
Plus being on here might weight your opinion slightly!

My missus said Cardiff was like an out of body experience. Biblical. She's a big fan and was in the 90's. Was buzzing for days after. Still is now. Watching all the clips over and over. Obsessed!

None of my other close mates or family could give a flying fuck about Oasis. Then or now. Average band at best. If you break them down...singing? Not really singing is it, more of a whine. Competent guitar work. Same goes for the drums.

But I can understand the euphoria surrounding two Manchester born City supporting lads who made it big. That era of UK music passed me by as I was abroad for most of the 90's and they didn't really go global in the way they hit the heights in the UK.

Still...although I don't 'get' their music, I can understand how other people do.
