Ozzy RIP

Like Rik Mayall and Lemmy, this one hurts. The Godfather of Heavy Metal leaves us.

I don't have words, only sentiments and recommendations.

RIP Ozzy, you magnificent bastard.

Gutted, even though you know these things are coming and he looked a bit frail at Villa park recently, it's still taken me a bit by surprise. My music library, and the whole of rock and metal, would be very different without Sabbath or his solo work. Something I think is looked over quite a lot is how successful he actually was after leaving Sabbath, the bands he put together and the songs they put out are still incredible journeys of sound even today.

The combination of music, and the persona he crafted around it, made him seem larger than life, immortal even, yet of course none of us are. But if anyone gets close it's the likes of Ozzy, he's left his mark and I hope his music is still celebrated in a century.

Thanks Ozzy for it all. A proper legend, a proper character and music that has a place in the history of our world. Makes you realize how lucky we were when you look at these wet napkins flopping around on stage with manufactured looks, music and no soul. Maybe because Ozzy stole them all for himself back the 70s and 80s. Legend.

What a life! First and foremost he was a great vocalist for Sabbath and his own band, let's remember him for that.

Honesty time, I've never actually listened to Black Sabbath. Couldn't name a single song, which is crazy because I like a bit of metal.

What a full life he lived, RIP.

Probably sacrilegious to say I liked Ozzy’s solo stuff better than Sabbath, which I found turgid and plodding. When on his own, on the other hand, he was faster and funnier, and when Randy Rhoads was in the band, every song was filled with fireworks. Nevertheless, there’s no gainsaying Sabbath’s influence, nor his, and he lived his own way, barreling through time as if he was racing the Devil he so often cheekily used as imagery. What a life. RIP OO.
I know it’s in honour of Randy Rhodes, but Tribute is right up there in my fave albums. As a guitarist I was never particularly into the whole shredding thing (can’t do it anyway)….but his playing on it is brilliant…and you can hear how great Ozzy sounds too

I used to have massive Tribute poster in my bedroom as a kid…
