UEFA Women's Euros | England win final on penalties!

Yeah, she's definitely "a spoilt brat." She is from a working class family, played with her older brothers, and their mates, in West London football cages. Her brothers would tell her she needs to toughen the fuck up if she complained about something.

During covid, she and her quarantine housemates, seemed to be constantly training, if you believe social media. My daughter is football mad and would watch her, Jill Scott,.and others, to keep up with her training.

The woman has worked for what she's gotten and where she is in her footballing life. If you don't have kids who are high level athletes you maybe don't understand. I do, and have posted about it before but I will again for your sake.

I have a daughter, not the footballer, who has been selected internationally. Her local club coach destroyed her love of the game to the point where she wanted to quit altogether, not unlike Taylor did to Chloe Kelly. Ultimately, she left and went on to play elsewhere. She's thriving again. Males and females "play differently" psychologically. It is a fact.

The woman has worked her arse off for much of her life to be be at this level. In my mind, Taylor had it out for her for whatever reason. If you look at the likes and comments on her social media when she was forcing her way out, other WSL players, current and former City players, and Lionesses, liked and commented. She is clearly well liked by people who actually know her, and her situation at the time.

Big fucking deal, she celebrates when she wins. She, and Agye, were gamechangers all tournament for this squad. I'll not hold it against her to celebrate. It's no skin off my back. They won the tournament and England is 2x European Champions in part because of her efforts. And guess what? Despite what some people think, it doesn't make me any less of a Blue for feeling this way.
I must admit I've had my doubts about her, though I know little about the women's game (though I am starting to follow it more and more!) however your post really is food for thought, well said and go on Chloe Kelly!

:-)

Absolutely amazing that they've won it again.

Insecure blokes showing true colours all over Facebook, X etc. Does my head in.

My daughter loved it and will give her a boost (she plays football and I manage her team)

Lucy Bronze is an absolute warrior.

My daughter went there for a youth tournament, Donosti Cup, two years in a row. Their youth players do it too. It's like a staple of the game. Their referees are bent af too. Two years made the quarterfinals for their age group and the Spanish referees did everything in their power to ensure Spanish teams progressed.
Yep, they did fall to the floor a bit too easily, and make the most of it ... not too mention they show a fair degree of aggression when they need to, they don't like to lose possession and they tend to hunt in packs and 'bully' teams to get the ball back when they do .... but there is absolutely no doubting their ability and quality, both as a team, and individually, some of their football is outstanding ..... most of us feared the worst for the Lionesses yesterday purely for those reasons.

England stuck to their task, battled gamely, and held firm, but Spains excellent fitness levels and threat pushed us to the limit, right to the end of extra time ....... it was a superb achievement to beat probably THE best womens national team in world football.

The look on the Spanish girls faces as they watched England pick up their winners medals and trophy was priceless, they looked absolutely shell-shocked, they have a degree of arrogance, and they had totally EXPECTED to win the game, no doubt about that ...... that painful memory will live with them forever, because they are a team who rarely suffer defeat.

What an amazing story. European champions again!

The manager has done a brilliant job and it’s clear we have some of the best players in Europe.

Even though some are incredibly bitter about her on here, Chloe Kelly carried us to that trophy and made a huge difference.

She’s one of the best players in the world and always steps up when needed.

The men could do with a few like her.

I agree. She created something from nothing, created multiple match winning assists throughout the tournament and scored the winning penalties. She turned up in a final again. If it was a male player, we’d be saying he was world class.

Obviously different circumstances, but I think it’s a real shame we’ve lost so many of these top class English players. Our team used to be built around them. There now going on to win champions leagues or euro tournaments

I agree . The core of that team is the team we have lost ....still delighted to see them all digging deep for England . So much courage and fortitude considering the injuries they've had .

I didn't get it Esme Morgan, good young player , can play at right back or centre of defense.
Breaks her leg , then when fully fit never got a chance under Taylor. For me could of been a future great player at City !
Will we ever learn what was going on behind the scenes ? As a lover of Shakespeare it has all the qualities of the best of his tragedies .

Looking at the bigger picture. We’ve won two euros in a row, got to a World Cup final and arsenals team that just won the champions league had a core of these players. Right now some of the best players in Europe are English and if we want to get back to the top we need more in our side.

I agree we’ve shown a real spirit and won even when we haven’t been playing well.

Last part is so undervalued by some people. International tournaments are not a style contest. A lot of the time it's how well you manage pressure. Very few teams play exciting and fluent attacking football in tournament. Sometimes it's just a case of getting the job done. We got the job done.

Given the pecking order in Europe as it was at the time, I suppose it was inevitable we would lose Bronze. But if we'd had her during those years at Olympique lyonnais, and then at Barcelona, I can't help thinking that the fortunes of the team might have been significantly altered. She's a bit like Stokes. These are athletes who are prepared to put their own bodies on the line for their team.
