Alexander Isak | Cried his way to a £130m move

Perhaps mate but it’s also possible in the absence of Rodri, Stones etc that we just looked a bit tired and ‘off it’ for a significant portion of the season which was seen by the lower levels from Haaland, Dias and a few others.

Hopefully what we have bought added to the players returning (from injury and to form hopefully in Foden) will see us have more energy and get a bit of momentum going from the off.

I’d prefer to see Haaland and Rodri get taken off early (60 mins) more if we’ve put a game to bed, that reduces fatigue and risk of injuries. We have a deeper squad so can use subs/rotation to good effect.

I think we are going to be back nearer to our previous levels after an understandably lacklustre season by our standards.

We are told that players believe that they are playing too much football and then we are told they are upset if they get left out, which one is it? Fuck knows!

If we bring another expensive striker in and we rotate I suspect it would piss off one or the other.
Players are not upset they are left out of every game. They are upset when they are left out of the most important games. CL Q, Semi and and Final. Games against other top tesms. All the games in the run in.

No one cares about playing the 6th round cup game against Crawley Town or Bristol.

Its the Arsenal, Liverpool Chelsea gsmes that mayter.

If you were guaranteed a start in the 30 most important games, and sub roles on all the other games most top players will take it.

Mate, the majority of the squad looked visibly fucked last season. They'd been rinsed to the verge of collapse over the last 3-4 years, & last season was a step too far for many.

If we want to battle on all fronts (including players on international duty) we have to better protect our assets. You wouldn't buy a Hypercar & thrash it to within an inch of its limits, the way we've done with our small squad.

We're back for pre-season now, so the next 5 weeks will tell us a lot about the club's squad intentions, especially with the potential loan situations regarding Reis, Khusanov & Echeverri etc... Personally I want them to remain at the Ethad, but will Pep dispense with Gundog, Kovacic & Stones etc to accommodate them?

This promises to get interesting...

If we confirm Trafford then the interest will be on those leaving. Maybe room for one more in?

It amounts to the same thing.

One of either Haaland or Isak would be left out of big games and be used in the lesser games, Pep may very well rotate but that might not be enough not to upset the apple cart.

That being said Isak isn't coming here anyway so it's a mute point.

We need a top quality right back. Gundog, Stones & Ederson want to remain for the season. Kovacic being injured means he'll probably remain too.

The question is, does Pep want to keep them for the season for continuity purposes? If so, what happens to our new recruits like Gonzalez & those already here like Bobb, Lewis & O'Reilly, not to mention Echeverri, Reis & Khusanov?

Personally, I'd go balls deep & complete the changing of the guard, with only Aké, Akanji, Bernardo & Ederson remaining. I'd be more than happy to forego honours for another season as our future squad beds in & gels together.

What we need to do is so unnecessary. It was evident we needed to start our succession planning after the treble, instead of tinkering around the edges of the squad. Our situation is of our own making imo...

No, it is inevitable. If the Saudi backers stay they will become a force.
Well so far it’s going great. Can’t get a single signing through the door, their first choice transfers going elsewhere as well as losing their best player to supposed rival in the league.

They have a manager who won't be attracting any superstars and none of them want to live there.

Again, I'd be surprised if Newcastle sold Isak to Liverpool. Only if Liverpool offer crazy money, say, 150m plus add-ons Newcastle may decide to do the deal. Isak is good but not that good.
I think they might sell him because there are reported moves by Newcastle for Wissa and Sesko. That means that there is an obvious solution for Newcastle.

Over the past 12 to 18 months, it's become increasingly clear that those in charge have little idea how to properly run a football club. Since Amanda Staveley’s departure, the operation has descended into somewhat disarray (off the field) with Dan Ashworth leaving for United, Paul Mitchell coming in and leaving. Despite having Champions League football, they’re struggling to attract talents like Bryan Mbeumo - players who are instead leaning toward clubs like United, who finished 16th. That speaks volumes to me that.

You have to wonder why players like Alexander Isak or Tino Livramento would want to stay, when more ambitious clubs are offering them a real project and a chance to win major trophies.

They’ve effectively become a selling club. As soon as the elite come calling, their top talents will be out the door. Contrast that with City after our takeover, we never sold a marquee player. That’s the difference between a club with ambition and one without a clear direction. Eddie Howe has done a great job for Newcastle, but nobody wants to play under Eddie Howe so at some point they'll have to look for someone bigger and better. Players want to play for Pep Guardiola, Xabi Alonso and Arne Slot.

He is only going there so our best hope if he goes is probably this window - trying to bed 7 new players maybe our only hope - they may not gel straight away etc..and surely it will mean no big trfs for some time! although i think the rules will change IF Liverpool needed to spend more! I have always said that we shouldn't have been allowed to spend the money we have - makes the league uncompetitive - no good for anyone... Liverpool despite claiming they dont spend ALWAYS have...most expensive GK / CH etc... and that is during a no spend period...apparently! If your a Fulham fan for eg... what do you hope for every season...bit of a joke really
True, but hasn't that always been the case? With the odd exception (Leicester, Blackburn a few decades ago but even that was bankrolled), when was the last time a small club won the league?

Fantastic post.

You wouldn't keep Howe in charge if you had the sort of ambition that City have shown. No disrespect to the guy, he's done a brilliant job but for me he's their "Mark Hughes".

I think much of this ref the internal disarray & the shitshow with senior Mgt positions is fair. But it makes no mention of the stranglehold of the PLs latest 'PSR' rules on the Toon. As we know, these regs and their APT addendums were specifically geared towards towards NUFC and keeping them as a supplicant club to be picked apart by the cartel. They tried it with us and fooked it up as they were too late and underestimated our ability to generate commercial revenues; they did better the 2nd time around.

So, imo not all this can be laid at NUFCs door. What's staggering is how lots of their supporters still mindlessly parrot the cartel's narrative about City being part of the elite that's fucking them over, despite being the only club challenging these BS rules in court. Sometimes, you just cant fix stupid.

PSR is the reason.

If it gets done it will be late in the window. Newcastle's first home game is against the dippers, MNF on the 25th. No way he's playing in red before that date.

He is odds on to join Liverpool to be fair.

I can definitely see it happening this summer.

It is completely to do with PSR. This is not because Eddie Howe doesn't have any pull.

They can't offer the same wages as Man Utd and Liverpool due to PSR rules and regulations.

I even believe that next season is the one where they get that year off their books when they spend big. So basically if they make the CL next season again they can offer better wages. It’s bad that Isak is leaving 1 year beforehand. If PSR existed back during the takeover it would’ve been the same for us. People don’t seem to understand that Newcastle are under heavy surveillance
