Cricket Thread

Horses for courses though, to be fair.
It’s a bit like moaning at city for not playing 8 at the back when they go 1-0 up. We haven’t got the players to do it and this cricket team isn’t built to score 200 or less in a day, or leave the ball alone outside off stump.
I’d choose losing like this to losing with players playing like Tavare and Boycott!
I get your point. Honestly, I do. But I'd rather win. Bazball has been a breath of fresh air in the England test scene. But there's a time and a place. And, given the position we were in just before lunch on the second day, it's crazy that we're in this position. As I said earlier, it's fairly irrelevant now. The chances of us winning from here (effectively 4 down with well over 200 needed) are remote.

Thanks for that, I am shit on the Internet searching, in most areas! So his average against Zimbabwe help! Against Australia and India, the 2 best sides, its mid 30’s, decent but not great.

Maybe he and Crawley need some better coaching about how to rein it in a bit and be a bit more two paced rather than just smashing it. They both have talent but they don’t have the skill of patience

Can you send me a link where I can see who his scores were against? I don’t see anything of the other guys apart from Jenninhs occasionally. You are probably right that there is no English opener making a case, and I think Crawley is a bigger problem than Duckett tbf. Pope is a problem too. I would personally be thinking about developing Brook or even Stokes to open and getting Bethell into the team. But I take your point maybe these two are as good as it gets. At least they stay fit, unlike most of our fast bowlers (why are Starc Cummins and Hazelwood always fit and ours not?).
I agree that Crawley and Pope are problems for England.

Crawley looks like a good player but ultimately flatters to deceive. But I think England like the Crawley/Duckett partnership and both have enjoyed relative success against Australia.

Pope is a poor man’s Ian Bell. He generally scores runs in the first innings but he’s shown weaknesses against high pace and quality spin. Out of our top three, I wouldn’t be surprised if he struggles the most in the Ashes.

This Brook approach reminds me of Bairstowe at the start of Bazball. Looks like getting out every ball because of the risk, but keeps on going. Fingers crossed

Isn’t it just. It used to be just cricket lovers but it’s been infested. They’ll go when the season starts ;)
Batters getting out to a poor shot has been the same since the dawn of the game! It’s what sticks in the mind too as it’s the last thing that happens.

In the old days, we’d have Atherton and Hussain batting now and we’d be 54/1 off 37 overs.

We’d also be 160 all out off 120 overs.

But the Hundred is still on then!

(I think I'm the only person who unironically likes that competition. Naff as fuck but fun to watch the two games in a day with some good quality players)

Cheers. I still think with both Duckett and Crawley the ability to be careful and just stay there would make them both better, but it seems that’s not the England way. Maybe Trescothick isn’t the best coach for temperament improvements, not being rude btw. I also note that Duckett is number 10 in the world test rankings, which is very good. He generally gets a good start, he scores quickly, but he is too risky and if he could learn how to leave balls and stay focused he could be a great rather than a good. I think so anyway

They need to sort out the score graphic. That’s the most annoying thing for me about the 16.4

It's just not cricket is it?

Someone racially abusing the Indian team for appealing so assume they are new to the game.

And if you’re talking about me you are wrong. This cricket team is called India, so that is who I am referring to as India. Their behaviour has been appalling in this series and I think the Indian cricket team (just to be clear) are a set if cunts. I also think Virat Kohli is a ****. If you dig back through my post history you will also see my praise for the Pakistan cricket team, my second favourite cricket test team, they play hard but fair. The Indian cricket team, probably bouyed by the success of the IPL and the associated pandering to them by the cricket authorities have become a right bunch of arrogant entitled cunts. When I started watching cricket I remember the likes of Gavasker, Bedi etc, great respectful cricketers. However if you think the screaming at umpires, surrounding the umpire like rags, screaming in the face of Crawley, Duckett even Root, etc, throwing the ball at a batsman who was in his crease and all the rest of it is fine then that’s up to you, I think it’s fucking disgusting. To be clear I have no problem with Indians but I fucking hate the current Indian CRICKET TEAM. Pardon me for having an opinion.

What a brilliant series this has been. Still unsure whether it’s going to be 3-1 or 2-2 going into the last innings. Superb. And all the shenanigans has made it even better. Good effort from England this morning. 164-3 is a very good effort. Brook worries the shit out of me though. He’s so brilliant but is looking like getting out any ball. Great for momentum shift though
