Is it a tender system that decides what venues get test matches? Or is there a rota system?

Of course, Lord's and the Oval are looked after!
The tenders were about 15 years ago, when Cardiff started getting them, it ruined it a bit as everyone needed 5 full days to get their money back.

As far as I know it is a panel with bit of rotation for the less favoured grounds, but income and location play a big part.

What a series. A proper feisty fight from start to finish full of tension. Compelling throughout the series. Loved the needle.
So happy that India won today. Easily the best series for decades

Unfortunately, I couldn’t watch today, but from the position that Brook and Root had put us in yesterday, there is no way we should have lost this match.

It was a very good game (and series) and credit to India for their part in making it a great summer, but to lose from there is unforgettable, really.

I'd feel the same way if I was in your side. I've felt in this great series. India chucking away winning positions.

While I don't care for some of the England players (I imagine the feelings towards some of ours are similar) I want England to beat anyone other than India!

England should never have been chasing such a total in the first place. There are some good bowlers, if a little inexperienced, but too many are just not playing enough cricket, and at the current rate will go into the Ashes undercooked. Their respective Counties should have free rein to pick them for the three rounds of Championship matches in September.

Doubt that will happen unfortunately

There are 6 test matches to be played next summer. 3 of them are in London. They don't care about us up North.
I generally agree that we've been shafted, with NZ going to London twice and Nottingham, and Pakistan off to Leeds, London and Birmingham in 2026.

Meanwhile the ashes in 2027 is Birmingham, London (twice), Nottingham and Southampton

What is will say is that I went to Old Trafford last year for the SL test and the attendance was shit. Don't think they helped their case. But I do think manchester should have one of next year's, that seems harsh. With all the noise OT makes about "diversification of income" etc, maybe they made themselves easy targets to just award odi and t20s

Do the grounds still have to bid for Ashes' tests? I recall that a while back, Lancashire didn't bid because the costs were too high if the match was short/weather affected. I think that was when Cardiff bid for one.

Everyone will play at Lords, leaving four across 6 grounds next year.

No real cricket fan is interested in the hundred.
When you see a great series, like this, being shoehorned into 6-7 weeks, the authorities show they really have no idea how to run the game.
Things are about to get worse, much worse.

The number of franchise team's will increase, they want a 6 week window for the competition instead of 4 weeks currently.

They do bid, I'm unsure what the details are but I'm fairly sure Lancs and Yorkshire bid for ashes

Headingley don't get an Ashes in 2027 or an India test in 2029. Harsh.

Hmm. I'm a fan of the Hundred but one of the things that works well with it is the conciseness of it all.

I.e fast games, every day but only for a month. By the end of the four weeks I've had enough of it. Six weeks is too long.

What are the rumoured teams then? A Somerset or Bristol franchise?

And Durham?

I can't see any other options for grounds that are big enough or the geographical area is obviously missing a team.

Yeah the Counties you've mentioned are all interested in a franchise team. When you sell the team's for a fortune the investors are going to want a return. Give it 4 or 5 years and there will be at least 3 or 4 more teams and at least a 6 week window.

Doesn't sound good. A tournament that goes on too long and presumably ticket prices will go up dramatically (they've already risen quite a bit since it first started) because of investor pressure.

Only positive is that the more money involved might draw in some better players in the mens game. It's not exactly a premium tournament at the moment with the current players imo.
