Positive BBC thread

I have grown up with the beeb. Good tv, good radio, good internet. We should be proud of what our state broadcaster has achieved globally. It really gives us a voice out there, from World Service to our music scene.

But I understand how we get bored as a country and want to renew or destroy our history so we can move onto new things. The BBC will need to stop demanding people pay license fees no matter what, just get rid of those people that clearly hate it and dont want to pay, let the rest subscribe for what is very good value for money because not all of us want to pay for Sky, have netflix accounts (I went through their stuff in 2 months!). And let the moaners pay thousands for Sky instead.

Another imbecile at the BBC trying to invent the wheel and soiling themselves in the process.

Makes you wonder how much this idiot understands about British footballing culture.

MOTD should show fewer highlights - BBC chairman

Match of the Day should show fewer Premier League highlights and more analysis, says BBC chairman Samir Shah.

Got a lot of time for the BBC and its attempts, in a very difficult world, to maintain impartiality and try to tell both sides of a story.

It certainly does not get everything right but when newspapers like the Sun/Daily mail etc are trying to constantly denigrate it you know it must be doing something right.

Had a lot of great memories finishing days working in the Middle East in the banana fields, settling down with a beer, and listening to the world services.

Also when abroad you realise the strength of its influence as a force of good. Many people abroad still turn to it for impartial news coverage. Something the country should take great pride in.

Likewise in my days working on a kibbutz in Israel, would often tune in. Don’t remember many banana plantations mind.

lol, hardly a positive bbc story but I see your point.

I suppose it is truer now that with all the games having 3 min highlights packages free on Sky football from 5.15pm on YouTube that lots more people have already seen the goals.

You missed out. It was hard work, up at 5 due to the heat, but back swinging in a hammock by 2pm with the world service and a few hours respite before the vodka drinking started.

The Graduate movie and the 81 concert in Central Park. And the making of the Bridge Over album. All on BBC2 tonight.
Very tasty.

Hmmmmmmmm, Prime time bbc Saturday is a movie from 1967, 58 years ago, a 1981 concert and a programme about an album that's so old even the FOC's on here haven't heard off.
I'm sure my 90 yr old mam who has just paid £187 for her licence will be thrilled. She had to race to the TV and turn over when The Graduate was first shown on tele and the seduction scene came on.

The stuff that they do well, they do very well. David Attenborough is without a peer when it comes to wildlife programmes. MOTD is still the leading highlights programme (it just needs a reboot, with some fresh faces). And their news coverage is generally good.
I disagree about the news coverage. I want news and not opinions. The correspondents always have to add their personal thoughts to any given situation which is not on. They are not elected so what right have they got to comment on often very serious matters.

I don’t like the BBC’s football reporting because they fail to leave their club allegiance outside. I don’t like their News as it follows a BBC agenda with a particular pov which they actually work out in meetings deciding which line to take. Otherwise the BBC has many virtues which I would not like to disappear.
Funding needs reform.

22,000+ employees, shocking there’s the odd offender every now and then.
I’m actually pro BBC mainly but they’re having a stinker with a lot of their presenters recently. And on “safe” programmes too such as Bargain Hunt with one of the experts getting arrested on terrorism charges, it’s quite bizarre.

But you also have to look at it as a percentage of the talent, that is not including the back end staff, in comparison to other broadcasters.

It seams like every other week someone is getting nicked for sexual offences.
