Holidays

Have you got any tips for Sardinia? We’re going in 10 days.
We drove the entire circumference staying in different hotels/guest houses. Beware of the wild boars at night if driving we were close to hitting several. We paid €50 to get onto a beach and thought are we mad!!, best beach we've ever been on! Sardinia has a Blue Zone: A region with a focus on family, community, and traditional diets. Known for a high amount ofcenturions .We went high up into the mountains to visit. porto cervo is lovley, quite expensive alot of celebs and super yachts. The food is really the best I've ever had and the beaches are a stand out

We get away a lot, i love ‘the search’, putting hours of research in to find a hol that ticks boxes. Dont always get it right obviously but thats also part of the fun!!

We usually have 2/3 nights away in between xmas and new year, mainly to stop me going out of my mind with boredom!

Went malta last year, paris year before that.
Before that and over covid we did scarborough and glasgow.

Struggling for this year though. We have had a lot of trips this year so the dosh aint there for another foreign trip , and we dont fancy the traditional uk sea side resorts (morrisey was right, every day IS like sunday).
Done edinburgh, oxford, london a million times, whitby, etc etc

So help a blue out;

Its us 2 and 2 kids and probably a dog so has to be a drive and and airbandb

Is cardiff worth a trip? Much to do see over xmas?

Cambridge?

Weve seen a lot of the uk so will probs reply, “already been” to most suggestions.

The Cotswolds or if not try West Wales/Pembrokeshire.

Rome has some amazing sites but it is very busy.

Venice was better than expected, but we went last April before busy season.

I found Florence a little disappointing but having said that, the exterior of the Duomo is one of the most spectacular cathedral exteriors I’ve ever seen - shame about the “slap some magnolia paint on it” interior :)

Bergamo is a hidden gem and worth a couple of days.
Would add Bologna which for some reason people dont seem go to.

Just back from a week in Zakynthos

Stayed in Alykes and hired a Suzuki Jimny and explored the Island, what a Beautiful place (Not Laganas though - that was a shithole)

Hired a boat too and explored at sea for a day.

Fly out Monday to Dubai for 3 nights singapore 4 nights and Bali 7 nights...... where to watch the city v spurs game in Singapore anybody?

Adding to what comiskey33 said, the interior is quite interesting and a pretty big contrast to the likes of the very swish Costa Smeralda. If you like a rugged landscape some of the cave systems are interesting. When Sardinia was notorious for banditry, kidnap victims would be held in them. There's still a 'we sort things out our own way' vibe in places like Oliena (Gianfranco Zola's hometown) but tourists are fine. As as already been said do be careful driving, doubly so if going into the more mountainous areas. For none vegetarians, the wild boar are both a traffic hazard and very delicious!

I think Florence is an incredible city, it's not great in the height of summer, way too crowded and too humid. Outside of that time if you like art, architecture and history your head twizzles like it's on a stick! Brunelleschi's dome is nothing short of incredible. Been a few times in May and October, went once in August - never again!

Just back from a few days in Pickering.
North Yorkshire and Northumberland are stunning places to tour.

No doubt that the Duomo, with it's dome and Giotto's Belltower, is spectacular. The view of the city and the cathedral from Piazza Michelangelo is superb. I'm glad I visited to see the cathedral once in my life - like I said, one of the most spectacular exteriors I've ever seen. But for me, it's a big drop off in attractions after this. I prefer architecture and parks etc and I'm not one for touring art galleries. I'm afraid.

Fair enough; whereas I love an art gallery or public art. Some great science museums in Florence too, my favourite is the Museo Galileo, Da Vinci May have been the polymath but Galileo looked to the night sky, vindicated Copernicus and helped us to begin to understand the cosmos. The telescopes in his museum are in themselves things of beauty and wonder.
