Neither of them are good enough for City on what they’ve showed so far
Both a huge downgrade on our previous wide players
We’ll see this season whether they have the brains and heart to improve, whether that’s here or elsewhere

Grealish is better for Pep's system. His control, passing, IQ and more than anything the ability to push the ball closer to the dangerous areas makes him very effective regardles of what clueless G+A merchants say. I know hes a polarizing figure among City fans but I don't care, I say what I see. Same with Doku. You don't understand what kind of weapon you have in him. His ceiling is higher than Rodrygo. Rodrygo is a better finisher than Doku as of now, but hes not going to create nearly as many chances because hes not as athletic or great at close control when running with the ball. Savinho is the weakest of the bunch.

In the end it comes down to systems, roles and playing time. You swap Rodrygo and Doku between their respective teams for the previous season, both Madrid and City get better. Rodrygo had a very poor season for Madrid, but due to the tactical mess that Ancelotti accepted as a cost of keeping his stars happy, he was deployed everywhere - in the middle when Mbappe was out, on the left when Vini was out, but mostly on the right. He had a couple of weeks spell on the left in the middle of the season where he seemed to click with Mbappe, but he faded quickly, partly due to his own mental fragility and partly due to systemic tactical and personnel issues. He never had any consistency in terms of role or even presence/minutes on the pitch.

Rodrygo definitely reached his ceiling at Madrid, but I suspect he might find new motivation, better tactical guidance, more important role at City and all of this means it could work out. His forte is versatility. Although the left is his natural position since his younger days, Vinicius is better there, and Rodrygo doesn't get that much worse going from left to right due to his versatility and very automated and efficient style. But it its exactly because of this why Pep wants him I presume. He is coachable, has a good head generally and could benefit a lot from a more defined role and teammates who are also positionally sound.

Hard to say what Pep can do to make him better, but a more defined + important role and installed confidence could be a game changer. Hes a high IQ player, but ironically thats sometimes his biggest weakness - he is not daring enough, makes the most logical choice and doesn't try risks. For a player in his position this is needed a lot more. But I suspect he is aware of his physical shortcomings so thats why he made that his style. Hes more fluid than explosive.

If you look a old pics you will surprised how slim he is.. I doubt he can really bulk up more than he is now really, just genetic. Vini is a beast in comparison.

Mbappe happens to be a world class player, who can dribble past players left or right and has the composure to finish well. He might be a dick who doesn't feel the need to defend, but there is no doubting his ability

As for Doku he is a limited player who has speed IMO. His final ball isn't good enough most of the times and he plays with his head down, which doesn't help him when he needs to find that final pass.

Savio has more upside IMO. He has been here one season and in the past would have been introduced more slowly into the first team. He is also younger than Bobb, who I also rate.

If the reports are right and he wants to leave, then fine. But I would try and persuade him to stay.

"Open to a move" isn't wants to leave. I think this will come down to how much Pep wants him & then how much Spuds are willing to offer.

So can Doku.

Its really astounding how underrated Doku is. His ability to cause havoc is second to none. Rodrygo is a wonderful player but Doku is just a wrecking machine. He's been excellent in the world cup.
 
I must emphasize that we will not be signing Rodrygo. He wants to stay at Real Madrid, and Real Madrid have no reason to lower their price. If Manchester City want to get him, they would need to pay a transfer fee close to €100 million as well as a weekly wage of £300,000. That is unacceptable for us.
If everything could have been resolved through negotiations, then a month ago he would have gone to Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern, Liverpool, or Tottenham.

We will likely not lower the price. And its true Rodrygo's wage demands are huge. Its the price of being a Madrid forward with multiple champions league trophies who contributed in winning these trophies.

What I do know for certain is that he will not like being on the bench. And if there is anyone who can afford him its City. If Savinho is off to Spurs, Rodrygo becomes very realistic.

I thought the reason we were loaning Echeverri was because we were over the NHG limit?
If a spot becomes available it'd be weird to me if it then went to Rodrygo!
