Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

I’ll be genuinely surprised if he ever becomes an elite level player and the standard we need, whether that’s right back or midfield.

If a bid of near 40m comes in it’s a no brainer for me.

Tidy player but just can’t see him ever getting by at the very top with his physical attributes.

The fan base has been so scarred by Cole Palmer some seem to think every academy lad has to stay and we should give them all time. Obviously just a random fans opinion but It’s been clear to me he ain’t gonna cut it for a while. If he was taller and quicker we’d have a real player at right back, but doubt anything’s gonna change in that department at his age

If he does go, can anyone see NOR taking his minutes at right back
He's unlikely to get much time at left back with RAN and a fit Ake
His minutes in the middle are also likely to be scarce
It would offer a good opportunity to continue his development a build trust from Pep
He can offer a lot of what Rico does when inverting but less likely to get bullied as Rico has on occasions.
Not what most of us want i know, but an option?

This! We have nothing to lose keeping him, and it's not like we need the money
As I wrote a couple of pages back; we are not in desperate need of money, it doesn't open up a squad spot since he is a u21 homegrown and club trained player, he can somewhat cover multiple positions. His value wont go down from being a squad player here at least another year and since he is still a u21 player he can obviously improve a lot.
I see no upside in selling him this summer.

Anyway, as for Rico, he's one of the weaker squad players for a team that intends to be number 1 in Europe again very shortly.

Doesn't excel in any 1 position; can fill in as a right back - just - or midfield - just; no pace; very weak and easily pushed off the ball. There are better and stronger defensive and midfield choices ahead of him, so he isn't going to get time on the pitch to improve as dramatically as he needs to if he stays with us. He should go now to get the game time he needs, imho.

He isn't elite - very nice lad, but, when there's good business to be done, you've gotta go when you've gotta go.
But he did get in team today and sometimes you need squad players that can be relied upon to do a job in a number of positions

Agreed. He doesn’t need to become a world class player, he just needs to be good enough to just a job when called on. That and his homegrown status make him more valuable to us than any other team imo.
