82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

He's got something to give, and he showed it today

No maybe we dont want him in the Chamlions league against Doue or Yamal but what full back would you back vs those?

He's technically strong, homegrown and has a point to prove

I think he should be sold anyway...

He had performances like this in 22/23, 23/24, 24/25 but fullback needs pace and height and strength and Rico has neither..

We need player like Kyle Walker and I see Khusanov as a perfect replacement.

If Stones is fit he can do that inverted role in midfield and play like he played in treble season. We also have Akanji for that role.

Matheus at least has pace and height and cover for some mistakes with that while defending.
Rico is liability as a defender

I see it the other way. Rico has a skillset that none of our other defenders has and that can be used in certain games.

We should be looking at a more defensive right back to play in the games where we need to think about defending more.

Then we have two right backs that are perfect for every type of game.

I was talking about games against teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, Madrid, etc.

In such games I am not even sure about Matheus, because he still lacks those skills, elite fullback / defender should have and I am more relaxed when I see player like Khusanov, who has everything you can wish for a defender.

Remember those duels against Vinicius. If player can handle that, then he handles everything.

PS It is interesting for which position Nottingham is considering Rico.

If Khusanov is an option as a right back, then I’d be selling Nunes before Rico.

I'm not a huge fan. That said what's the point in the current situation? Do we really need that PSR money? Don't think we do. Our main concern is foreign players in the squad. Inverted RB he is great, low wage. Home grown low wage

If Khusanov is an option as a right back, then I’d be selling Nunes before Rico.

Last season when Walker was loaned out, Pep had Akanji, Rico and Khusanov for that role.

Mainly it was Rico, because we had too many injured CBs and there was no luxury to play Akanji or even Khusanov on RB.

But in the end Pep had to play Matheus there and he played better than other options and cemented that place.

So we should judge by that experience and not use one game against weak Wolves team as an example.

Matheus helped us a lot to get into top four and therefore deserves to stay.

Madrid played a winger at right back all last season and Barca stick a centre half there.

I want us to sign a top right back as it's the glaring weakness in our team but let's not pretend everyone else has a perfect squad. (I know Kounde does really well at right back that's not my argument)
Not sure that Madrid is the greatest argument for not having a right back.
They won nothing with pretty high quality forwards.

I like Rico and would rather we kept him, he's a very useful and versatile player but I wouldn't refuse a decent right back.

I don’t dislike Nunes. I think he improved a lot as he learned the position.

He’s got all the skills too, just not the mentality. He’s not got enough between his ears to be a true Pep player.

Rico excels in a highly technical side and fails in one dependent on physicality.

It’s the same with Bernardo.

When the passes are popping off and we’re moving in tight spaces, progressing the ball quickly, Rico is a star.

The games are not defending or attacking. It’s mostly both in one game. Rico has one advanced quality: short passing. The rest is very mich average. He wouldn’t be starting in any other top club in Europe. He shouldn’t be starting at City either.
We are witnessing the same every year. He is starting. Then the game gets more serious and we drop some points. He ends up on the bench. We don’t need it this year again. Sorry. But we just don’t.

Rico’s superpower is finding space between the lines. He’s absurdly good at that. Just look at the first goal today. He found the weakness in Wolves’ structure.

He’s 20. He’s trusted more at that age than any other academy graduate, including Foden.

He was overplayed last season due to injuries and that meant he played in games that he wouldn’t have as the physical mismatch was too great, which affected his morale and he was probably knackered too.

I know you don’t rate him and that’s fine, but I think his intelligence, movement and quick passing will make him a top notch number 8 in a few years.

Until then, he’s a utility player who we use as an inverted full back and occasional 8. He’s club trained, doesn’t make a fuss about game time and loves the club.

Nice he added some Long Range passes to find Doku. Thats a improvement, he never did that before. He earns his chance, otherwise we would see Akanji Nunes or someone else.
