A player has every right to attempt to block the shot, just not with the arm. It's a cornerstone rule of football.
Didn’t he lean towards the direction of the ball?
Didn’t he lean towards the direction of the ball?
could have been - hope soWasn’t that Jack Harrison?
Can't believe people are saying no pen, it's an absolute stone waller for me, he's leant into the ball and it's hit his arm.
As a professional footballer he will have computed the risk/reward of leaning towards the ball to block the shot.He tucked his arm behind his back. He can’t tuck the part of his arm it hit behind him, it’s physically impossible.
Hence (presumably) the sleeve rule. If it hits the sleeve, no pen. Unless that’s changed. Which is a possibility.
It's the problem with VAR summed up. It's in search of perfection it can't find. So many decisions in football are about judging intent, which you can't really prove one way or the other. Adding VAR into the equation doesn't prove the intent one way or the other, it just allows more people to look at indecipherable footage. Not that I'm defending the diabolical level of officiating in this league, but just based on the fact that us lot in here can't agree on whether that's a stonewall penalty or a miscarriage of justice, you do have to wonder about how the laws of this game are worded and enforced
Fair enough, I wasn’t clear on the exact rule. Let’s see what the fall out is from this and if Webb comes out with a ‘clarification’ ;-)Yes he definitely leaned into it but as long as the arm is tucked it that's got to be allowed.
The threshold for a penalty from a shot is supposed to be an unnatural arm position usually outstretched according to Howard Webb.
His arm wasn't "behind his back".If you ask me (and nobody is)… if you have your arms behind your back and it hits you above the elbow then it shouldn’t really matter what the fuck you’re doing. You could be leaning, diving, doing a twist. The standard for handball needs to be way way higher than just “it touched his arm”. He’s clearly not waving an arm at it which is what the spirit of the handball rule is about.
I properly hate handballs. They always ruin the game. The punishment is so disproportionate. Penalties for handball are just stupid. Leeds do not deserve to be winning this game.
Just give an indirect free kick or something unless it is 100% without doubt that it was clearly handball and clearly deliberate with intention ala Suarez clearing it off the line.
5 pints at half time, you mean ?Grealish wasted out there
