Donnarumma wont help this year, but he'll help once Pep leaves which surely is this year or next, it has to be

This kamikaze playing out the back is outdated, Donnarumma is a world class shot stopper and is only 26, there's long term benefit to this transfer

Feel for Trafford, and as I said dont think Donnarumma helps us this year as he makes that mistake Trafford does, but long term it locks down a world class keeper for the next half decade or more

The hope I have is that Rodri will be back soon and he helps us build from the back. He knows when to offer for the ball and when not to. And positions his body better when he does.

Plus, I reckon Donnarumma - just purely by having more experience and a bigger personality - won’t be afraid to boot the ball when he feels like he needs to.

He just won the CL and Ligue 1 under Enrique being told to play the same way. It’s not alien to him.

Thank you. I dont understand how more people don't get this.

Traffords mistake yesterday was nothing to do with playing style. It was a suicide pass in his own area to a guy with a defender 3 feet away. Donnarumma isn't doing that.

Exactly this, that second goal is nothing to do with ball playing ability, it's about playing a pass to a player which isn't on! Poor decision making.
Ederson did something similar against Juve in the CWC. I also think as much as that goal is ultimately Traffords fault, Dias does him no favors playing him the ball. At 1-0 down our captain should be making sure we do nothing daft and get to half time still in the game.

Who do you think is taking over from Pep, Pulis?
In all likelihood it'll be Enrique who just got rid of Donna for someone more able with his feet.

Was playing from the back outdated when Ederson and Rodri made the same mistake against Spurs 2.5 years ago, a few months before we won the treble?
Even if you don't always play from the back, being able to makes you a better team, it gives you options.
One of the reasons Spurs had so much of the play yesterday was because we were going long from goalkicks.

Donna was great vs Arsenal (if you ignore the offside goal he conceded because he doesn't come off his line), which is probably what most are basing his ability on, but he lets in quite a few soft goals, and for all this 'experience' talk, the goal he conceded against Germany was ridiculous.

Trafford's distribution short and long was poor.

In what remains of the transfer window, we need to resolve the position of the goalkeeper. Ederson, or Donnarumma.

PSG don’t win the CL without him. The two performances against Arsenal were phenomenal. I’m not bothered about his footwork,we have been laboured in possession for a long while now and it needs to change.I still don’t think we get him though.

That went straight back to Spurs with no City player within 15 yards .

what for, I see what I see
then you are not seeing that there are numerous people questioing it

Every agrees that he is a fantastic shot stopper.

Do I want that - yes absolutely

The question is how does it fit in with our style of play having a keeper who is poor with his feet? Ignore the goal which Trafford cost us yesterday. Look at the other issues between him playing out to a back four and that only Stones is comfortable in receiving the ball when under pressure ...Spurs had 5-6 men press on the edge of our 18 yd area knowing we have a back 4 which is not the same as it was previously with the ball at its feet together with a keeper who is not as good...at passing or decision making. We saw this in the CWC, we saw it at Wolves early on we saw it yesterday.

Ederson does make those mistakes granted...but not as often. Teams stop pressing as high cause Ederson is less likely to make them and also that his long kick is devastating...something that Trafford doesnt have. So now they will press more knowing the chances have increased of a mistake. Either because the back 4 and midfield are not as good at receiving the ball or the pass or decision making isnt as good.

Put a keeper in who is even worse at this and what happens...the problem will increase.

So the question is then does Pep change the way he plays - evidence from the past suggest not to such a great extent. Happy if he does cause it will lead to more problems if he doesnt

Talking about suicide pass, Donnarumma does that too.

That was more to do with their high press pushing Nico and Tiajji more deep leaving Cherki isolated in the middle and Haaland with 2 defenders on in, during the first 15 mins we put 3-4 long balls over that Bobb, Marmoush and Haaland got on to, once they scored we were far too deep and the midfield battle lost.

Short balls or long balls didn't matter yesterday, Frank got his tactics spot on and we were just out matched and out plalyed

No, I'm not seeing numerous people, I'm seeing the same few (you being the most prominent), simply repeating the same line on several threads.

If he's going to be such a downgrade on what we have now, then the question surely is why are we interested

Still a mistake and worthy of criticism, but those arent really the same thing. Trafford had time and space and just gave the ball to a marked player.

He'll likely know he has to play the ball quicker than that in future. There's an extra touch there that is completely unnecessary.

How many times has he done that since November 2023 when it happened?
