The way they are playing is unsustainable.

As it averages out over the course of the season they will eventually go through a tough period if they carry on shipping goals like they are and allowing opposition teams to have periods of decent domination.

I remember at the start of last season when we won 7 and drew 2 of our first nine and a lot on here thought we were putting in champions like performances when we got wins against Brentford and Fulham at home, a last minute winner away to Wolves and a last minute goal to draw to Arsenal.

When in reality all the signs were there that something bad was around the corner. Regardless of the Rodri injury because 5 of those games were with Rodri playing. We very rarely played well at all in any of those 9 opening games last season. We even got 4 wins and a draw post Rodri injury.

But then, boom, 6 losses, 2 draws and 1 win before we managed to stabilise and actually have a decent second half of the season. The best in the league actually.

The damage was done however.

It's hard to say it's unsustainable after two games in. They might tighten things up at the back and then they're gonna be hard to beat to the title.

They just have that thing we used to have where you just always sense they'll get the result, no matter how they play.

It's really hard to topple a side when they have that winners mentality locked in. Then you factor in The Kop on top of that. Its gonna take a huge effort and mentality shift for our players to put them in their place.

What I will say is if they are playing in an unsustainable way like you say, and we can all agree that City are also, then the bottlers Arsenal might get a free run at the title without needing to bottle it because nobody might get close to them.

Didn't take long to scousify Arne Slot. He seemed decent enough to start with but that's the thing with a cult, once they get their dirty little claws into you...

Totally agree, although I'm not sure I would say "good side" at present, perhaps average at best. However, it is only 2 games in and (I at least) hope that players will start to work together better. Whilst City are in transition, with the number of new signings I think that is now true of us aswell.

As for the comment about being "powerhouses", as loathe as I am to criticise a blue on their own forum, that really is a silly comment after only 2 games..... and games where we have been lucky and only won them on stoppage time.

Kerkez needs to get back to basics and watch the ball and focus on defending for a little while. Wirtz needs a little more time and I think Salah is a little off it at present. Defensively, every team in the league will be thinking that they can score against us.

Lets see what the league looks like after 9-10 games and we can have a better view. Until then its a case of trying to stay in touch with those most likely to be the real competition, Arsenal, City & Chelsea. It may not be as relaxing as watching a team run away with it, but I really think this could be an exciting season again with 4 teams in it.

As rare as rocking horse shit, a dipper who talks sense !

I genuinely appreciate your contributions @LGWIO

A scouse manager calling another team a long ball team is pretty rich.

What is unsustainable about how City are playing? We won one game convincingly and lost the other poorly - that is inconsistency. Unsustainable is relying on very late goals to win games after giving up what should be comfortable leads, particularly against a team lacking forwards and down to ten men.
Also "The Kop" is not a big factor compared to the media bias and subsequent favourable officiating the dippers receive. If one of their players had been fouled like Bobb was and they got nothing there would be a media shit storm.
Even when we lose the dipper aligned media try to attack us - see the articles claiming Trafford should have been sent off.
If Arsenal were to look like they can challenge then they will be on the end of dipper media hate and dubious decisions. Their challenge last year was crippled by some decisions that would never have been given against the dippers,

I think playing a conventional centre forward will take something away from Salah's game. He will still comfortably outscore any of our wide players (and maybe all of them combined) but his output will drop from last year.
I am fascinated to see how Wirtz progresses. I would have happily seen him at City. The fee was eye watering but lots of people said that about KdB when he signed for City and that was some of the best money ever spent.
I am hoping that Liverpool do not manage to get any more defenders signed before the window closes. If that is the case they will have to flog VVD and I don't think he will last the course.
It should be an exciting season - just hope Pep gets City into contention.

Agree with alot of what you say there although with Salahs form so far he will do well to be top scorer, especially with AFCON coming up. In which case the goals will have to be shared around a lot more equally, the hope being that the early form of Ekitike continues across the season.
As for Wirtz, I would almost be happy if he turns out to be half the player that KdB was, as that would still be bloody good. The weight of that transfer fee will weigh heavier and heavier as expectation and the need for a dividend grows. It did for Darwin and sadly he just couldn't deliver.
As you suggest, a defender/Guehi I think would perhaps be a better signing for us than Isak.

Looks like they are gonna drop £180 million on isak and grueh and we can’t even get a right back in . What the fuck is going on atm is this the board or is it pep saying we are good to go ?
