Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

The problem with this is we are not PSG, we arent capable of replicating their performance. Their answer to donnarummas inability to play out was to have the best front press on the planet and to pack the team and particularly the defence with pace. We'd need an entire new squad to be able to do that.

Lord, to have Joao Neves in our midfield... Aside from all his other talents, I didn't think he had goals like this in his locker

I hope you're right mate.
Yeah I'll admit I'm very much glass half full, but I stood on this last year. The man who won 6 titles in 7 years gets the opportunity to figure this out if he wants to be here. Otherwise you're setting an impossible bar.

Chopping and changing at the first sign of distress is United behaviour.

psg getting rid of him as they are evolving their style and he hasn’t got the level “on the ball” for the way they want to play moving forward. So we sign him….to replace the best on the ball keeper in the world? Having spent 30m on Trafford and with Ortega staying on. GD is clearly a top keeper in the “old style” and objectively isn’t a bad signing but remember when we had a coherent plan and strategy? Golden days - scarily United similarities coming out each day….

PSG were the finished article. This is part of City's rebuild. You can argue how far down the line we are with that.
Were they? They have an extraordinarily young squad, younger than ours was and is. I dont think they're close to being the finished article, their next evolution is one where they are dumping their keeper to bring in somebody who aligns with the way they want to play.

The argument has been "if psg can manage to win everything with donnarumma in net, So can we" which ignores the fact we don't and can't stand up to the other 10 players they put on the pitch

From Sky Sports Website:

'Donnarumma 100 per cent not the right GK for City'

French football expert Julien Laurens speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast:

"Is he the right fit for Manchester City? The answer is: 100 per cent, he isn't.

"On saves - him and Thibaut Courtois, there are no goalkeepers better. Maybe that is enough for Guardiola to say he wants him.

"But to play for Guardiola you have to be good with your feet. If you're not good with the ball at your feet, you are not a Guardiola goalkeeper.

"His distribution is not good enough for a Guardiola team. And his other weakness is he does not come for the ball in the air, he doesn't like coming for crosses and corners.

"If there is one league in the world where you have to be brave like that, it's the Premier League. I cannot see how Guardiola thinks 'this is the perfect guy for me'."

Maybe we are planning for the manager after Pep? I really don't think he is going to stay beyond this season.

All our best signings had some idiot in the press telling us they were gonna be shit.

He was the one I was desperate for us to sign when PSG seemingly got a free run at him and at the time, I didnt even think he was as good as he has since proven to be.

Completely agree, he already seemed very talented and has gone up a level. Tremendous player

Christ. It’s already so boring to see journalists give such a black and white analysis on his arrival.

As if we’d spend €30m on a goalkeeper which Pep isn’t comfortable with.

As if said goalkeeper hasn’t just won the CL playing under a manager with the same footballing philosophy as our own manager.

As if said goalkeeper isn’t top quality and one of the best in the world already.

As if our own goalkeeper doesn’t want out.

As if our current goalkeeper hasn’t been lambasted in recent years for his shot stopping ability. Yet when we get one of the best in the world at shot stopping, it’s somehow a negative.

Fuck the negativity around this. One of the best in the world, at a bargain price with tons of experience and winning history.

I'll be honest, I've loved this guy ever since he emerged as a ridiculous 17 year-old. Absolutely insane to be starting for Milan at that age as a goalkeeper.

We would not be signing him as a backup for Haaland. We would accomodate into the attack . We have a history of signing players and playing them in a position other than they are used to.

Do you honestly think that the problems with Dias and Stones is one of confidence in the goalkeeper. If it/was clearly they did not rate Ederson
You think we would play Isak as a winger? Isak is an out and out striker, neither he or us are going to having him anywhere else. Let it go, we never needed him with Haaland.

Imagine if he had signed for Liverpool instead, we'd be going mad.

He will be a great keeper for City.

With his prime years as a keeper to come.

I have an open mind on this and it’s good to see the positive side. It’s hard to disagree with any of your points.

And as was shown in The World Club Championship final a goalkeeper can only do so much if the defence is not operating
