The Labour Government

What advice do you think she sought?

Whether she could avoid the tax?
Of whether avoiding it was wrong?
Or something else ?

Assuming from the ethics report she didn’t ask any of those as if she did, she’d have been found to have not been acting with integrity too.

Check the letter from the Ethics Adviser.

BBC News - In full: Rayner, PM and ethics adviser's letters on her resignation

Spells it out well that the advice she took said they weren't tax experts and she should get expert advice.
She didn't do this (for whatever reason) and believed she was paying tax correctly.

No-one with a brain is buying that BS pal. I even showed you the HMRC guidance which proved that your statement saying unoquivocally that she was only caught out because of the age or her child, was wrong. Just plain wrong. That you cannot admit it, says a lot.
Was that the guidance that referred to a minor child?

How many back handers to rise to the top ???
Would you be saying the same about an MP who has a PPE first from Oxbridge, after an internship with Daddy's friend who happened to be a minister.

Don't fall for the "thick northerner can't progress based on skills" rhetoric.
John Prescott turning in his grave.

Angela's real crime was to be a down-to-earth northerner who left school as a single mum, lived in a council house on an estate, worked in a low pay job for the council and had the outright cheek to rise to the highest ranks of government, talking to Oxbridge types with a northern bluntness and commoner's accent.

Giving hope to all who didn't have the silver spoon.
FFS, yes and tried to save shit loads of money in tax on a house in Hove 250 miles away from Ashton and Dukinfield. But she was caught and tried using her disabled son as a excuse for her incompetence

I doubt it would have happened so quickly but a wounded Tory party probably doesn't have any MP more recognisable than her.
She was a top target and scored a massive own goal for the sake of 40 grand.
Made it easier for the Mail to deliver the telling blow.

She definitely isn’t “establishment” but she must have known that and that would upset some folk and how she needed to be extra careful than maybe the likes of Johnson or Mogg. That’s what makes this all so strange. Hopefully her career will recover from this in time.

Hahahahaha. And still he tries to defend her. BRILLIANT! Watching the shit show that is Labour and it's loony supporters scambling around like headless chickens, has genuinely made my weekend. No, my year. It's BRILLIANT.

I knew you'd be all over this thread Chippy. A rayner one was pulled when you went off on one saying you absolutely hated her. Despised her, a loathsome individual. There's still dozens of post on your account with your obsession of her. Come on seriously you'd love a night with her wouldn't you.

Oh and talking about defending people, You've some fuckin nerve after your rimming of Tommy Robinson the other month. Even Ric had to come on the thread and shake you.

I’d like to see the written advice she got fully, although it won’t happen.

Why? Because I believe that people should be judged on what they do, not what someone else did.
Remember Pritti Patel was found guilty by conduct office of bullying. Head of standards went instead of Patel after Johnson ignored his recommendation. Rules apply to Labour politicians only, especially women‍

At least he applies the standards

I'm not disputing she broke the rules or even the spirit of the rules.
Others have done similar or far worse and have nothing more than a slapped wrist.
She's been a target for a long time and painted a target on her own back with luminous paint with this.

And suggesting that she brought her son into it after the event is misrepresentation of the facts.
Read the ethics advisor letter. She had her son's condition and the trust situation in the process for her flat purchase before it came to light.

The rules should apply to everyone, and the only consideration in this case is whether or not Rayner has done something that merits her standing down or being sacked.

What has happened before her is irrelevant, and bringing up other people over and over again just smacks of "it's not that bad because the other side were at it as well".

That's why no-one has faith in politics at the moment. No-one is interested in "they did it first" or "they were at it more" arguments. We want all politicians to act better and be better.

Only question. Has she done wrong, and should she be punished for it. Whether she is labour or not, whether she is a woman or not, whether she comes from a working class background or not. Totally irrelevant.

She could be all of those things and if she didn't do the wrong thing she would still be deputy PM and in the cabinet.

FWIW, I think standing down gives her some chance of resurrecting her political career at some point. If she tried to fight it, she would have been finished.

That's more like it

I seriously wonder if there was even more damning shit would have come to light if she'd clung on. If this was a one off, then I wouldn't be so cynical but after the council flat sale saga, she had form.

One good move, the liar pretending to be a solicitor who has never had a job in business, is no longer the business secretary. Thank god for that.
