Welcome Donnarumma!

The side that just won the Champions League wouldn't be letting him go if he was that good. I imagine Trafford will start.
Do you know why PSG were willing to let him go?

I mean it's only been mentioned at least 30 times on this thread and others over the last 2 weeks

It didn't take long did it.

Not played for City yet, and the Red top tabloids are already questioning him.

Did you watch it? I just watched the highlights. Here's what I saw:

Disallowed goal: Donnarumma flaps at it badly and gets lucky - pretty soft foul in my view - needs to be stronger.
Goal 1 - Comical own goal - Donnarumma does nothing wrong.
Goal 2 - Fantastic strike - no chance
Save - Great double save around 75 mins to keep it at 3-2
Goal 3 - Another comical own goal - no chance and does nothing wrong
Goal 4 - Defenders allow two free headers in the box from an inswinging free kick, which makes him look like he's in no-man's land. I could be very critical and say he should come for the initial ball, but I think he's got to trust his defenders there, because it's not really central enough for him to be confident of getting there.

Other than that, a few fairly routine saves on the highlights I saw, but no spills and decent handling every time.

Honestly, if we ignore the first disallowed goal, I'd say it's a very unkind reading of the game to suggest he struggled. Obviously any keeper letting in 4 is going to be furious, but none of them were his fault in my book.

That is fine, but even at 71.9% it is hardly better than Ederson and people think he was poor at traditional keeping

If context matters, why just the CL stats on 4 cherry-picked games?

It wasn't really about Trafford, more to do with the stat that the best keeper in the world had a worse shot-to-goal ratio than the one leaving, when people were claiming that he would be a vast improvement in that department.
Last season (when he got most criticism) Ederson was 2nd to Pickford in having the best stats for expected goals saved. His shot stopping was underestimated.

It was just a comment and certainly not a criticism.
Not that it’s anything to do with you, but I’m delighted we’ve signed him, as I’ve consistently posted throughout this thread.
Why would it have anything to do with me? As far as I know this stuff isn't intended to be personal...

Watched the entire match and that's pretty much what happened...

I haven’t been critical of Ederson. What's more, I think some fans have gone over the top criticising his performances.

Now, I haven't watched Donnarumma enough to have a firm opinion. But I trust the opinion of experts that he is one of the best keepers in the world. Their opinion was confirmed by the CL games I watched, specifically vs Liverpool and Arsenal.

What about the stats? Maybe they are not as telling about his quality as some think. PSG play very attacking football and may be a bit too open, especially in the domestic league, which leads to high quality chances for the opposition. Also, they play weakened sides in the league, as they can afford to rotate.

Anyone who thinks our club hasn't done a thorough research on his strengths and weaknesses is being naive. I guess some people don't know the most relevant stats or how to make sense of them.
I didn't say you were critical of Ederson, at this point, I'm not sure what you are reading or inferring from my posts.

Best left, as I see you are resorting to a little bit of insulting at the end there, for no apparent reason.

Ederson was an fine shot stopper, I felt he suffered from the fact when we gave a chance away it was usually a very good one the opposition would be expected to score. I can't remember more than 10 goals in 8 years I've seen go past Eddy and thought "he has to do better there". It is also fair to say I rarely saw Eddy make a save and thought 'fuck me he's saved a certain goal there' whereas Donnarumma makes those saves regularly.

You are right, my bad. Just wanted to say that it's premature to worry about Donna's quality based on stats.

Ederson was and is still good enough for city. The way we handled his wanting to leave shows that.

His shot stopping, foot skills, assist rate, all top notch.

Last year or so what has happened some people have moaned about how he is shit and just kept on moaning. Not that it affected anything. But I think it was just one of those things where if enough people say it, tweet it, podcast about it, enough people will believe it.

The club knew his true value to City though, that's why Donnarumma was late and unexpected as was Trafford. Imo

The issue we will always have is we have a high line and a lack of pace at the back, Goalkeepers will always be subject to 1 on 1’s due to how we play and will look worse because of it.

The media knives are already out for Donnarumma just as they were in the beginning for Pep and every single fucking signing we have ever made.
It’s no surprise.
Just contrast with the reception Wirtz has had despite doing absolutely fuck all since pulling on his red top.
It’s laughable really and shouldn’t do but it still makes me angry to see those cunts putting us down even before a player has made an appearance for us.

There was about 5 of them just last year where he could have done better. Agree though that there wasn’t really howlers. But if most first shots on our goal end up in, the keeper needs looking at, at some point

We need to win and shut them up don’t we. Writz has got away with it with Liverpool winning 3/3.

A few of the 10 were definitely last year! Feyenoord he probably had his worst game for City.

The knives were out for him on here in deadline day, and beyond.

Fuck the media.

There might be some of that ,probably is, but there is also a lot of media, incuding some City fan media, and some in here I'd include myself that can't quite get their heads around it and are waiting to see how it works. Not worried about it just find it odd and intrigued as what we do next.
