The Labour Government

She lives in Ashton 50% of the time, her ex husband lives in it the rest. Ashton is still her main residence.
Ok if that’s true fair enough but that means the £800,000 home in Hove is her second home! I have supported her as a local girl made good. She has achieved so much but I honestly feel this saga is a huge own goal. Hove is a nice area but even there the average price of a flat is £370,000.

She said it in her statement, since they got divorced, her and her husband have got a nesting agreement where they both spend 50% of the time there with their children.

In terms of the house ownership, when they divorced, they put 50% of it into their son’s trust for ownership. She then sold her remaining 25% of the house to the trust, so the Ashton house is now owned 75% by the trust and 25% by her ex.

For Stamp duty purposes, the Hove house is her second home but not because she still lives in the Ashton house as much as she does, but because as she’s a trustee and her son isn’t 18, she is still classed as an owner of the Ashton house — just for stamp duty though, she’s no longer on any deeds for it.

It is absolutely an own goal and she rightly lost her job for it. Personally I’ve never really been a fan of her politically, I do actually have some sympathy for how some of the narrative and reporting around this has been though.

No one can accuse Starmer of having the greatest political instincts, but even he isn’t going to call an early election and with a 150 plus majority they are not going to get voted out either.
You're almost certainly right that Starmer won't call an early election. But who knows how things are going to pan out. Any which way, The dire financial situation is so precarious.and with unpredictable consequences. If Reeves and McFadden try to push through the necessary deep cuts to our welfare bill, dozens upon dozens of backbenchers will rebell. They may defect to Jezbollah and Labour could find itself with no overall majority.

On the other hand, if no such cuts are made, then if Reeves does not bring in huge tax rises, bond yields will spike further, and we'll face a debt crisis and sterling collapse, and the government will be in turmoil. Yet if she does whack up taxes, she kills any possibility of growth, and the financial collapse will follow anyway, just a few months or maybe a year later.

Either which way, unless we dramatically cut public spending - with all the political difficulty associated with that - the country is fucked. And when the country is fucked, the government usually falls.

I have sympathy if she just wants to do right by her son. I could also understand if her aim is to get out of politics. Who could blame her? But she is streetwise and knew what she was doing

Energy giant Ineos has ceased ALL British investment & has channelled (£2.2billion) into American operations instead, blaming the Labour Government's taxation of North Sea oil and gas extraction.

Ineos cited Britain's
"unstable fiscal regime"
as the primary factor.
And their lack of support for funding the Rag stadium.

Perhaps the government now feels that it would be unwise, and entirely counterproductive, to add to the rise in unemployment and inflation already caused by the NIC hike.

Or that it might be wise to pass responsibility for workers rights to somebody who has more experience of working in the private sector than Angela Rayner. And when I say more experience, I mean anybody that has worked a single day in the private sector.
Remember the same old shit being trotted out about the minimum wage.

No. They can't count; and the frag faced Nazi is too busy rimming Putin.
It seems that Farage is keeping low for a few days whilst his own financial errors are up for scrutiny

I’m not actually sure she did! It’s more for me that she should have done and rightly lost her job for it.

Well she apparently has no property in Ashton any more since her divorce. She is now just another backbench MP whose focus must be the people of Ashton. Having her main residence on the South Coast sends the wrong message. Presumably she will now lose her free London flat as well,
She could always get on Jezza’s couch.

As average wage increases are higher than inflation and interest rates have come down it would appear that most people should have extra money.
If only the figures were aligned to reality, the cost of essentials i.e. energy, food, water etc all up disproportionately more than other items in the so called "shopping basket". Food inflation alone is up 36.9% over 5 years. Haven't met many people who have had that big a pay rise in the last 5 yrs and it disproportionately affects those on lower incomes. Thats before we get to rent increases.

The cost of small luxuries like holidays have also skyrocketed as have second hand cars etc. So even if you have a few extra quid it doesn't actually buy you anything which makes a material difference.

The increased cost of everything post covid and Ukraine has been sold as the new normal with no rush from anyone to drive cost down for consumers.

Let’s include Brexit in that.

When we talk about inflation in goods and services, what never seems to be mentioned is ‘why’. I wonder why that is?

Take food, for instance, has the pressures from climate change and specific changes to the UK leaving Europe had an impact on pricing?

What is noticeable about all these increases is a lack of understanding of how they have come about. If people actually knew why this was happening, rather than just seeing the headline figure, they could at least look at their choices and change them for the betterment of themselves.

The effective interest rate on existing mortgages hasn’t come down either, in fact it has risen slightly over the past year, by around 20bp.
