She said it in her statement, since they got divorced, her and her husband have got a nesting agreement where they both spend 50% of the time there with their children.
In terms of the house ownership, when they divorced, they put 50% of it into their son’s trust for ownership. She then sold her remaining 25% of the house to the trust, so the Ashton house is now owned 75% by the trust and 25% by her ex.
For Stamp duty purposes, the Hove house is her second home but not because she still lives in the Ashton house as much as she does, but because as she’s a trustee and her son isn’t 18, she is still classed as an owner of the Ashton house — just for stamp duty though, she’s no longer on any deeds for it.
It is absolutely an own goal and she rightly lost her job for it. Personally I’ve never really been a fan of her politically, I do actually have some sympathy for how some of the narrative and reporting around this has been though.
