No one had any idea how this, or anything, was going to play out back in February and no one has any idea now as to what the fallout will be in the US. Trying to predict the chaos and irrational decisions coming from Trump and his Administration is pointless. Putting Mandelson in play was a smart move and I said as much back in February.

This is not a Labour issue, it’s a British State issue. Tories would have done something similar and appointed someone who understood the Trump world in order to gain an advantage. No one has to like it, it’s just the way it is right now.
