Dundee school obtain tickets for Liverpool game

City should have a team proactively working with local schools and offering them these trips, not just having a link online and hoping schools manage to stumble across it.

Engagement with the local community seems to be lacking and given the population of the surrounding areas, there are a lot of kids we could get hooked from an early age.
What about 'City in the community', Alex Williams did a cracking job with that, bringing local kids to both Maine Road and The Etihad.

This has been going on for some time. My daughter was on a school trip a two or three seasons ago for a CL game vs Real Madrid. Her school was just south of Edinburgh (not private). The trip included a stadium tour. She was one of only two blues in the party of 80+. She said that most of the others supported Liverpool as their 'English' club. If I remember correctly they had good seats near the from of level three in the East Stand
At the time I was surprised about it but it looks like its still pretty common.
Trouble is, many of these kids will likely support Liverpool and, if they’re in a ‘City seat’ they’ll likely cop for some trouble. Abuse at best, a slap and an escort out of the ground at worst, which won’t be an ideal experience for them.

The rags have a partnership with Werneth School, also in Romiley, and are very active with coaching sessions, tickets etc.

It's such a simple and basic thing to do in order to attract kids and get their brand in the face of impressionable youngsters.

City may well do similar things with other schools for all I know, but on the surface it looks like City don't really care for local support and, as others have already said, just want bums on seats who are willing to spend money.
City do and have done loads for Manchester schools.

You’re right about local schools. My two kids went to Romiley Primary School, as far as I’m aware not once did City come to the school. The rags came regularly, doing coaching sessions and giving tickets away for games.
The CITC is award winning community scheme so I know City do lots of things with local schools but they can’t do every school in GM. They might even have an arrangement with the other GM clubs to try and spread the support around who knows?
Just one of may examples

That’s a naive take DD. The club are making these tickets available for one reason only; £.
Absolutely fuck all to do with development of our fanbase.
Rich kids who’ll spend £ in the club shop.
I agree mate. I'm just commenting that we do a lot of it with Scottish schools in particular. I was once told that we are actively targetting Scottish kids to be their English team. Whether you want to call it "developing the fanbase" or "maximising turnover" is up to you.

And yes, if fucking annoys me as well bearing in mind the club have refused my sons a season ticket and I have to get in a scrum for tickets for them for a game like this. They didn't even get United tickets. They could be the third generation of weekly match goers in my family but because of the club's stupidity they are getting out of the habit of going and have even got Saturday jobs.

Fewer and fewer tickets are available for proper City fans.

For a number of years, season ticket holders who gave their STs up have not been replaced by new ST holders… their seats go to the club’s ticket tout partner sites and have different people sat there each game.
This happened with the seat next to me, and I’ve had mates try and get that seat so they can sit next to me from the official City ticket site, yet it’s never been available on there… and every game it’s a different random foreign visitor or left empty.

More and more tickets around the ground are also going to these ever-increasing-in-number club ticket tout partners.

For many games over the last three or four years, it has seemingly been impossible to get even two tickets together from the official City ticket site for PL games, never mind if you want to attend with a group of mates or family. So our members who buy individual match tickets are often sat alone in different areas of the stadium to the person they’ve come with.
This also puts off the ‘Dad n Lad’ from attending because a Father isn’t going to have his seven year old Son or Daughter sat in the adjacent block on their own.

Burnley on Saturday does have a few in twos though, for once. Big games though, there seems to be no chance.

Yet you can see all around the stadium that tickets from these ticket tout partners are often in large chunks all together. So if a group of eight mates wanted to sit together, they will be able to if they pay a few hundred pounds each from the tout sites.
You can tell as well because for some games like Napoli last week, chunks of them were empty in the third tiers and they weren’t available in chunks like that from the official City ticket site.

And if you’re a school from Scotland, you can get 80 seats together!

Some of them were cheering for Real Madrid however my daughter didn’t see any trouble. Strength in numbers as they were all seated together with half a dozen teachers.

How does this work then?

My sister is a teacher is Wales.

How do i get the club to hand over 20+ tickets to their School for the Arsenal game?

Might even get a freebie for sorting it ;-)

Edit : Just seen Gordyola post so will let her know

I think this would be a great thing to offer to schools in the Greater Manchester area, in an effort to secure the future generation of fans, particularly where parents possibly can't afford to take their kids given the cost of both memberships and match tickets.

Coach tours from Dundee though?

I'd imagine the Liverpool game would easily sell itself out twice over so it seems a strange choice of game. Why not do such trips for less attractive games, especially midweek ones?
I don't want to get into an argument over this, and I wholeheartedly agree that the tickets should be going to "better use" (not given to any fuckin 3rd party)
The document attached though says it's a "tour operator" doesn't it?? Once those tickets have gone out from the club via a "partnership" there's no control where they end up.
This is rife across Spanish clubs, and it's now a huge problem for UK clubs

they do not even have any school football teams . they have rugby, cricket and hockey pitches but no football pitches.

They have done for schools in the Manchester area as I can confirm. Some of the kids were not City supporters and one of the teachers wasn’t although the other two were. But the non-supporters respected the occasion and they had a great time.
We gained a few supporters as well. :-)
It was a reward for the school football team doing extremely well.

Isn’t it something that ‘City in the Community’ get involved in?

I hope everyone complaining about not being able to buy a ticket for a “big” game against Liverpool is buying one of the hundreds and hundreds of tickets still available for the more mundane game against Burnley this weekend?

There’s loads of coaches coming to that one too.
Bit of an odd comparison. I think genuine fans are perfectly entitled to ‘complain’ about access to tickets when large numbers of tickets are going to touting websites and school kids in Scotland.

School kids who more than likely don’t support city get access to one of our biggest games. Why shouldn’t actual city fans get that same chance of attending our biggest games?

You could flip your argument and say why aren’t those school kids attending the Burnley game instead? Or is it not glamorous enough
