Stadium Developments thread - San Siro to be demolished (p56)

Unpopular opinion.
Wembley should never have been rebuilt. They should have provided funding to clubs to develop their stadiums, from Premier League to lower leagues (naturally non-league should be provided money regardless).
Finals and England games should have been shared out, enough funding could have had more 50k-60k capacity stadiums.
It’s also just a big example of how this country is so London centric. Vast swathes of this country find it quicker and cheaper to travel too and stay in foreign cities than to get too and stay in London.

When the Fulham and Jacksonville Jaguars owner offered to buy Wembley a few years back, the FA should have snapped his hands off.
Now we have a situation where the FA are so hungry for money, Coldplay are playing a concert whilst England are on tour at Villa Park in anyway.

Just a quick reminder folks. The report function is there to report posts that may be in breach of the forum rules. And not for any other purpose. Please bear that in mind. Thank you.

This is my thoughts too.

Even if they didn’t want to do anything with the site, knocking it down and creating some football pitches or a park for the community would have been a good idea.
I know it’s right next to Stanley Park, but map scouting shows that Stanley Park doesn’t have any football pitches or 5-a-side pitches on it.
How great would it be if you were an Everton supporter and you were able to take a penalty from the exact penalty spot?
Any reason why you replied to your own post?

From todays paper

"AC Milan and Inter Milan say they are "very pleased" after the city council approved the sale of the San Siro, a move that could lead to the iconic stadium being demolished.

A sale of the two Milan clubs' home was approved after a lengthy overnight vote, with debates taking place for almost 12 hours.

The approval could lead to the 99-year-old ground and its surrounding areas being sold to both clubs for 197m euros (£172m), but it still needs to be officially confirmed by the city government.

The clubs said it is "a historic and decisive step for the future of the clubs and the city".

The San Siro has been AC Milan's stadium since 1926, but it has not been modernised since the 1990 World Cup.

They share the ground with city rivals Inter as joint tenants and repeated attempts to modernise it have failed.

The clubs plan to build a new 71,500-capacity ground as part of a large urban regeneration project, with there reportedly being aims for it to be ready in time Euro 2032, which Italy are joint hosts of alongside Turkey.

Last week, the clubs appointed architectural firms to design a new ground"

We are supposed to be closing to acquiring a site for our new training ground complex, which is said to be like yours. It is said to cost up to £300m, and will include a mini stadium. If they manage to land the deal then there could be an official announcement before the end of the year.
The rumoured site is on the meeting point of Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Northumberland councils. There is a couple of plots of land around there that are for sale, both across the road from each other. 1 site would be located in North Tyneside, the other in Northumberland, it’s unlikely that it would be located in Newcastle’s boundary as that would indicate it being on the other side of the A1 where there is no real access or obvious site.

What is the point in keeping a stadium where they will replace 1 stand, and leave 2 stands that are not fit for purpose half closed off?

It seems as though they made a last minute decision to keep it based on sentiment and haven’t thought it through.
Pretty much guaranteed they will 'sell their womens team' to boost FFP pockets. Owning Goodison might allow them to sell for a lot more money.
