Burnley (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

We need to fix the midfield and the team will perform. The control is gone and it hurts us because it means we can’t attack effectively or defend. Concern is Gonzalez is just not working. The hope is Reijnders adjusting otherwise we have the same problem as the last 3 years without Rodri.

Doku is finally showing his level.
Don't talk utter fucking shite. Them 2 are only just starting on their Man City journey. They will come through it and learn the way we play. It takes time. Also they are still alright. We are growing and learning in a completely new team and setup.

One day i'll figure out why Nunes breaks so many of our fans' brains that they can't evaluate his performances on their merit. Maybe it's his face, it is quite annoying to be fair. Maybe it's just needing someone to blame and not feeling like blaming homegrown players who look worse. But it's right on cue, every single week, as soon as the result is bad, some people look for someone to blame and it's always him
And Doku. And Savinho. Same idiots who don't understand why their job description doesn't read "world class football coach". Same idiots who think Liverpool can't be caught after 5 matches, or the 5th game of the season is a "must win" and "we're out of it if we lose".

I wouldn’t be getting our dicks out just yet, as I cautioned after we smashed Wolves. Burnley are diabolical and will get relegated:

Plenty to work on. Plenty of times shape was miles off and there was far too much ball watching on spare balls. Better teams would have clocked on and exploited.

Lots of good stuff as well. Doku, O’Reilly, Gonzalez all very good. Good going forward and good pressing at times.

Nice little string of wins. Get the injured lads back and kick on.

Funny thing is i've read posts exactly like this one in all of the 6 seasons we won the title....and domestic treble....and THE treble....

Doku has risen to the challenge. I thought this year is a make or break year for him and looks unplayable at times and his final ball has been pretty good. Savinho I’m willing to give him some time as this is only year 2. Gotta stop giving away easy goals but I loved the second half response. Liverpool are by no way shape or form anywhere close to centurion levels as they squeak win after win and finally lost one the same way the win them. Dominant teams win 2-0,3-0. They don’t win 3-2 or 2-1 all the time. 5 points back after all the talking head idiots said we were done. Only 6 games in. Calm the F down

Really flat first half after a decent few mins at the start, coasted to half time after our goal and a draw was fair going in. Much better second half thankfully. Doku was a menace and great to see Haaaland bang in two late goals.

Plenty of people on this forum were giving Doku the big "fuck off" before the season started. What have you got to say now for yourselves ? A fucking big piece of humble pie ?
He was magnificent today. The transformation is staggering but shows that good coaching and willingness to do what's asked of him produces results

Worst performance overall since the international break but a huge win nonetheless. Doku is probably the most unplayable forward in the league right now. Him Foden and Haaland have real chemistry.

This team is going to get better over the course of the season. Consistency of performances will inevitably come but right now consistency of results is much more important.

I could diagnose Alzheimer’s on the basis that you think 9 months is Gomzalez starting his journey now.

Wasn’t expecting that after 60 mins
Savinio needs to show the same level of confidence as Doku who has been a revelation this year

Donnarumma - No chance with deflected goal and a good save. Yawn.
Nunes - Cracking volley. Brilliant that he got into that position in open play. Never feels like a RB, but then when he’s not slipping, he is a very solid RWB.
O’Reilly - Very tidy game and added deep attacking intent (beyond Doku) in the 2nd half. Solid.
Dias - Another steady performance. Unlucky for the goal.
Gvardiol- Anonymous, which is kind of a good thing as a CB in a 5-1 win.
Reijnders - Lots of running to little effect. Had a few good interchanges, but fluffed his lines with 2 chances from the edge of the box.
Gonzales - Thought he had a great first half, but got a smidge slower on the ball in the second half. Best game I’ve seen from him playing 90 mins as the pivot. Developing as a very competent understudy.
Foden - Very nice performance knitting the lines together. Worked very hard on defensive side, too. Definitely getting back to his very best.
Savinho - Always feels like he’s almost a brilliant player…but! Frustrating day.
Haaland - Frustrating day for him too until it paid off. Very little good service, but he did a brilliant job knocking down the Nunes assist and then got his just desserts in injury time.
Doku - Starting to show what he’s about. Second MOTM performance in short order. Brilliant attacking force and if he hadn’t been trying so hard to get himself a goal, I think he’d have earned a penalty. Excellent performance.

Dominant first half performance that resulted in the (typical) 1 shot, 1 goal (against!) half time. Second half we looked a little labored for a while, although O’Reilly’s marauding beyond Doku looked like it was going to be fruitful. Then, a cross created the second goal and a square ball across the box from MOTM Doku settled the game.

With the game over, Haaland added to his legacy with a poacher goal that will have made his day after an hour of frustration, but 95 mins of hard work.

Nice to see Pep getting his substitutions correct, and in a timely manner.

Considering the general malaise most are feeling about the start to the season, after today’s results, it’s nice to see we are still very much in and amongst the Top 6 before we get a fully fit squad and actually slip into a high gear.

All in all, what looked like it might be a frustrating day turned into an “if Carlsberg did Saturdays” type day, made even better by the fact that Liverpool drew level beyond 83 minutes again, then Palace made Slot spit out his dummy on 97 minutes with a cracking winner!
