Ryder Cup 2025

Over the course of three days, there was some incredible golf, from both teams and individuals. Huge privilege to watch that, even if on mute.

Well, as Sunday unfolded and stretched into the evening (here in Europe), that was a bit like the match against the dippers in January 2019, with the ball being cleared off the line with a centimetre to spare by Johnny — but over and over and over. It was the more difficult in that after about an hour or so out on the greens, the board was showing blue all over the place, with numerous Europeans one up or even two up, and the others all square, pretty much. I had my hands in my pockets and thinking to myself, “Piece of piss, this golf business”.
Kudos to the American players for scrapping like that, incidentally. As for the American crowd — they can fuck right off. Most graceless losers on the planet, bar none.
I don't much want to go through that again.

By the way, a stupid headline (not exactly a headline, but a sub-heading) on the BBC: “Europe sneak past America to win the Ryder Cup”.
Sorry? Say that again?? Sneak?! Didn't that sub-editor, or whoever was responsible, take a look at the board on Saturday at midnight? It was looking like a thrashing at that point.
America snuck up on Europe, pal — and, yes, nearly snuck past them…

Credit to the American team. They gave it a good go yesterday. They do generally come out on top in the singles.

I think, after all the back slapping and “we're all friends when we're off the pitch” stuff, it would have been an appropriate — even desirable — gesture for the American captain to go on record, publicly, as saying “Look, we like and need your support, but some of the stuff being shouted was definitely over the top. Rein it in a bit next time. The personal stuff is not on.”
Or words to that effect. It is one thing for McIlroy to complain about it. It would be have been gracious for one of the senior Americans to do so. But I'm not holding my breath.
According to what was reported this morning, McIlroy's wife — his wife — got dog's abuse in the galleries. She also got hit on the head with a beer can. Thankfully, empty. I would be surprised if she was the only family member that happened to.
I think that's downright disgraceful. It's dipper level behaviour. And that's the pits.

The Yanks are bad losers, which I can understand, but even worse winners.

That utter tit Thomas is a prime example. Didn't try to calm any US fans on Saturday until after the point that it was obvious Rory had already been affected by it, then made a great show of what a nice bloke I am, hushing everybody.

I may have said it earlier, can't remember, but when one of our lads did something brilliant, they just seem thrilled to have done it - the US players (Thomas the worst, again) strut around as if to say 'look how great I am'. I may be imagining this, but don't think so.

Annoying to hear how we were lucky to scrape through - the truth is, they hammered us on one day, we hammered them for two.

Im a very bitter ex Head Greenkeeper and this type of behaviour has been creeping into UK golfer.
I loved greenkeeping, nice early mornings best time of day and finish at 2pm.
Producing a really good standard of course. The problems started around the start of bigger handicaps, when i started greenkeeping the handicap system was up to 18.
Now its up to what ? 30 odd ?which means a high percentage of 'golfers' are nothing more then hackers with expansive clubs with huge sweet spots making it easier to hit the ball.
These hackers can't play golf but they think they can because they can hit the ball along way thanks mainly to modern equipment not their skill.

These hackers are vocal in the club house about how shit the greens are, fairways are, tees are, rought is etc.

So many excellent greenkeepers have left the sport because of these bully hackers, that know nothing about how to play golf or understand the course or the different seasons.

It amazes me how many hackers want soft poa greens that your ball just sinks in. Instead greens should be firm and fescue/bent mix which needs back spin to control the ball. Most hackers can't do that so want the greens ruined for they game. Then blame greenkeepers because the greens constantly get disease, are slow to putt on and require more irritation. So the cost of chemicals, water etc means goung over budget lol.

Anyway rant over, come on European stuff these fucking yanks
Yes we had a few issues the winter before last where it seemed to rain non stop for months. Members knowing what’s best ahead of the green keepers and letting them know.
I stay well out of it, especially as I don’t have spare time to help out.
I’m on the border of being one of those hackers - 18 h/cap , although my clubs are definitely not what you’d call expensive.

My lad thought he might win the sportsmanship award named after Nicklaus/Jackson. Thank goodness Tommy Fleetwood won it, though I'm not sure what feat of sportsmanship he displayed. Maybe it was for stopping that other knob from attacking Rose.

Oh for someone with the true statesmanship of the universally respected Jack Nicklaus in this day and age.

When the sports media go on about the "famous New York Crowds" it's not unlike "the knowledgeable Kop" - we know what they really mean - ignorant, unintelligent, entitled morons.
The media need to stop sugar coating what are really just borish yobs.
Are the usa the Dippers of the World?

Most people I know are embarrassed by what happened, not gloating or acting like the criticism is a conspiracy against them.
A lot of non New Yorkers on social media distancing themselves from the oiks who were at Bethpage Black. New Yorkers have a reputation for being gobby fuckers. It seemed to be far worse than Brookline or Kiawah Island.

That's true and Long Island is particularly bad. At the same time I'm a New Yorker and I've been playing golf my whole life, and even by NY standards it was way over the line. It's one thing to be loud and obnoxious at a hockey game or whatever, but trying to disrupt someone's swing and the personal nature of what was being said was disgraceful, particularly at a fucking golf tournament which is theoretically based around sportsmanship between allied countries.
