The Squad planning thread

I think we all would mate.

It's obviously very unlikely but if we could somehow get Geuhi and Livarmento it would be unbelievable business and set us up for years, not to mention the English Quota!

Donnarumma 26

Livramento 22
Guehi 25
Gvardiol 23
Ait Nouri 23
I think you’re inflating Guehi’s ability somewhat, he’d be akin to an Ake or Akanji level, we need a Stones, Kompany, prime Dias level player. He’s also a LCB despite being predominantly right footed.

he is in bigger bracket than Ake or Akanji, i'd expect him being a prime target now after Tino's injury

The whole point of bringing in Viana is to spot the talent the world has yet to put a €$80-100M price tag on!

While the club could always overpay for a young talent from a second tier team, it’s very, very difficult to prise top, top young talent from our European peer group (Last 16 CL teams).

More likely is a ridiculous number for a Wharton or Anderson. If AngeBall doesn’t go down well at Forest, Anderson might be a shout. However, while Glasner is working miracles at Palace, it’s hard to see Wharton being let go.

City’s profile for talent is 20-25 yo. The younger end of the range has to be seen as a potential generational talent, while the older end of that range has to have proven themselves somewhere. Both of those carry a price City are often unwilling to pay. Imagine who we might be today with VVD and Kompany, then with Stones/Dias at the back for the last 8 years?? While we can’t have done much better, I think we might have had the tightest defensive set up in English football for well over a decade.

We seem to love that £30-60M player over a 5-6 yr contract, which makes them an annual £5-10M FFP hit, plus wages, not the £80-100M player who has to set the world alight, as we did with Grealish. That deal will forever be a head scratcher!

City are not getting him from PSG in a month of Sundays, unless he puts in a transfer request and Viana comes up with a Declan Rice/Florian Wirtz sized number. Only the red tops can spend that kind of money and get away with it!!
Wouldn't be so sure now our etihad deal gates chains have been unlocked

Don't disagree with any of this really, but just to remind that we aren't Sporting Lisbon, and the job is a little different. He has been great at spotting/developing talent there and I guess the more of that kind of transfer he can get right for us, the more money we save to be able to do a biggie every so often.

(And yes, I doubt we get him also, but would love it!)

Six year contract until 2031! Brilliant news & draws a line under the summer transfer shenanigans.

Hopefully now everyone will move on & give the lad the time & space he deserves to develop & achieve his full potential at Manchester City...
He will need to improve on his recent performances and approach as well if he is going to get the fans onside.

His albeit limited appearances this season havent looked like he is stepping up but he is young and has time...but he also needs to show a big improvement in application, bravery, decision making in the final third and finishing in front of goal

Nah,

Akanji pound for pound was a snip for what he gave us.

Ake, sadly misses too much football for 40m. Great player but poor availability.

Loads on here said he only wanted PSG too. Can’t think of a time we took one of their top players (Donnarumma aside who had 1 year left and they were actively looking to sell) or they took one of ours. Just not happening sadly.
