16 | Rodri 2025/26

Pep keeps saying the correct things in press conferences, rodri can't play 3 games a week, he can't do 90 minutes yet etc etc and then he is on the teamsheet every game he is available.

That injury is on pep. No need for him to play today, Nico has had a few games and looked much more settled, he could easily have started today and Rodri got to sit it out. The mentality has to be when can we leave rodri out, and not, play him until we have to leave him out.
He could've given him 30 minutes off the bench against Monaco and another 30 minutes off the bench today, I don't understand why he doesn't try that.

Everyone who comes back from an ACL gets a few of these little annoying ones as their bodies get used to playing football again. He seemed to be walking OK after the game so it's probably going to be a 2/3 week hamstring strain, most of which will be international break.

This probably won't be his last one of these either.

I dont think that is beneficial tbh, it's still multiple intense workouts in a short space of time even if it is a third of the potential time, whether you do 90 or 60 or even 30 of intense exercise, the body needs to have the full recovery time afterwards before going again. I'd sooner he played 60 minutes once than two 30 minutes within a week if those were the options.

Ok well he should've played against Brentford or Monaco but not both, his start against Napoli was also unnecessary.

What do you propose if he doesn't sign a new contract?
I think he’ll sign. The stuff he said recently about how special he felt parading the Balon d’Or before the Madrid match and how he feels his rehab has been handled mean he’ll sign a new deal.

Not guaranteed, but I think he’s really happy here.

If he's fit after the international break, he should only be playing PL games at the weekend. Rough stretch of PL fixtures after Everton and we should manage without him for the games in midweek for the next couple months.

I wouldn't be in any great rush to see him back before the dips game next month. Everton, Villareal, Villa, Swansea, Bournemouth and Dortmund. Not the unkindest run of games. The trip to Villa Pk maybe a bit tricky, I guess. Same for the game in Spain. But we should (repeat, should) be able to handle them with the quality of player we have. Time for Nico to fulfill the potential lots of us believe him to have. Cherki also available, hopefully (on the bench today).

It’s the juxtaposition of him needing regular minutes to regain rhythm and this body’s need for rest as it adapts to a “new” knee.

Tough balance to keep. Guess it’s mostly on Rodri himself to be honest about his body is feeling.

Kovacic fit now as well. I think I’d like to see Rodri play at least as a sub against Bournemouth so he can get some match fitness before Liverpool and Newcastle.

I think he could be pretty annoyed with Pep. Reading between the lines he only wants to play one game a week at the moment
