TV Series

I interviewed Richard Whiteley for the student magazine around 1997. Lovely guy, gave above and beyond what was expected of his time at Yorkshire studios.

The very last thing he said to me was "do you have dreams about the Queen Mother"? To which I replied "no".
He then says "surely everyone dreams about the Queen Mother. I dream about her every night"

He did come across as a gentleman and a funny one to boot. Never seen to have ever heard a bad word said about the bloke.

4 episodes deep in Ed Gein. I'm not overly familiar with his story besides the basics, did a very small bit of research into him and its staggering how fabricated the show is so far. And what the hell is with the Hitchcock/psycho and Texas chainsaw side stories? Seems like they didn't have enough content to make the show so randomly decided to include that as filler and put it where it doesnt fit and ruins the flow of the show.

I'm guessing the more research i do, the more things i'll discover is entirely made up and that i'll dislike it more. It's getting worse by the episode at the minute.
Yeah I get he inspired those 2 films and was inspired somewhat himself by the nazi woman but couldnt stick with it and binned it off, loads of filler is exactly what it felt like, dragged the story out

Started well. Peaked during the prologue episode, which ironicaly was Alien again, but went a bit downhill afterwards.

I enjoyed the whole series. Thought it breathed new life into a stale franchise. I can understand your reservations, though. A relative of mine felt the same way.

Some great acting and characters too (my personal favourite was the sheep*).

*Not a significant spoiler for anyone yet to start watching.

Got through all of Ed Gein now. I thought the first half was loaded with filler and had weird tangent stories that didnt fit in, The back half is just full of them.

That in itself is annoying and I just found myself constantly thinking "the fuck has this got to do with the story?" But doing a bit more research into him and also finding out at least 80% of the series was pure fiction makes it much worse.

Found out yesterday he sounded absolutely nothing like the weird. Annoying and hard to hear voice they gave him, he didnt have an unusual voice at all. Literally no reason to give him that voice. All the Adeline stuff was made up, pretty much the entire last 3 episodes were complete fiction. Such a massive disappointment.

Dahmer had a few inaccuracies in a largely true story, menendez brothers had a lot of "artistic license" built on speculation in a true story that's got a lot of unanswered questions and lended itself to be dramatised, and Gein is just fiction surrounding a real person. If it wasn't part of the monster anthology and they didnt label it as Gein's story, it still would have been all over the place but you could at least just watch it for what it is but labeling this as Gein's story when the majority of it isn't, destroys it.

I get where you're coming from but wasn't the idea of the last 2 episodes particularly that you were essentially watching a schizophrenic version of events because of his schizophrenia?

Perhaps I'm giving the film makers too much credit?

Anyway, I thought overall it was average regardless of accuracy and some of it was pretty fucking gross and also disappointed that there wasnt more on his inspiration for Bill in silence of the lambs (which I love).

Were binging Dexter never seen any of it.
Upto season five episode eight.
What order do we watch the follow up shows in please.

I was going to watch this but the more I hear about it I don't think I'll bother

Yeah i'm confident you're right, they were trying to portray a version of his reality with the radio conversations, the correspondence with others killers and the helping FBI bits.(the nod to mindhunter was the best part of the show imo as I loved that series) I did get that but to be completely honest, I was done with it at that point so I just saw it as ultimately more fiction.

If they'd have made it very clear how inaccurate it was, I'd perhaps say it was watchable but forgettable. Putting it as part of the monster series though, to me at least, gives off an expectation of a minimum level of accuracy in the story. A level they fell well short of reaching

Also don't forget it depends on how deep the watcher wants to get into the 'Dexter' lore as you have the web series 'Dexter: Early Cuts' that started this whole thing off and that's on YouTube as well.

Watch the Dexter series in the order they were released.

1. Dexter (S1 - S8) - Loved it.
2. Dexter: New Blood (S9) - Didn’t like it. New cast, format, setting, story, just wasn’t that enjoyable. Was great to see Dexter again though. It was more like an E4 teen show.
3. Dexter: Original Sin (Prequel) - Enjoyed it. Shame they cancelled it after 1 season.
4. Dexter: Resurrection - Absolutely daft story but just great to have Dexter back… bring on the next season.

Started Monster The Ed Gein story and it's definitely fucked up. I can see why some critics have called it "repellent".

Watched celebrity traitors, first time I've seen the show. Moderately entertaining, most of these have no clue of the real world.

But.......... Rather than making this expensive nonsense I'd prefer a decent well acted, well plotted drama.

And if they want to give money to charity, just give rather than making this malarkey!
