The Pro Road Cycling Thread

On a ‘back to cycling’ note, I don’t normally bother with the European championships, but the start list for this Sunday looks a bit special …

Jonas dropped way back in these Euro Road champs. Pogi out front, Remco in the chase pack, but only 30 seconds back.
67km to go.

I’m glad to see Vingegaard lining up for a one day race but I’m not sure why he’s chosen this race at this stage of the season after doing back to back grand tours. I think he could do well in the Ardennes if he wants to attempt them.

Yes, you would think wouldn’t you, that he could do something in those type of races.

I do think if he did more one day races it would sock it to some of his critics, myself included, who struggle to warm to him. I find him almost Armstrong-like in the way he seems to hide away from racing most of the year and focus everything on those 3 weeks in France. Fair play to him this year for going to the Vuelta as well though.

Won she pissed it, great ride :-)
Now I taped the mens race at 98 km to go so going before the spoilers come in ;-)
We’re going to have to start taping from further out!

I was at Brentford yesterday so absolutely blitzed by time got home, poured myself one last tumbler of wine to watch cycling , fast forwarded it to last 100k - game over!

He’s fucking unreal. Surely a shoo-in for Lombardy too.

Well, let’s see!

Game on and nice to see a breakaway shoot off from kilometre zero :-)

The Italian lakes looking as magnificent as ever.

He’s still a (very) long way from Merckx but it’s getting closer by the race. He’s got to win PR and MSR yet plus the Vuelta. Throw in the hour record, various track titles and a few Giro / Tour doubles and he’s going to overtake the Cannibal. Before that I never thought anyone would displace Hinault at number 2 but this kid is close to that.
I just love watching him ride. He’s proper old school. Rides everywhere. And wins

I think in this modern day, with the sports science, it is staggering someone is so far ahead of the rest so I would already put him right up there. It's impossible to compare different generations, like in football, but he is an unbelievable athlete.

The time trial at the worlds was the only race I've seen him look human in for a long time!

Ha, yes, Remco tbf to him did diplomatically point out that difference between Pogi & Eddy M (that Eddy won TTs too) the other day ;-)

Just reading up on the history of the UAE team manager. Wasn’t aware of any of this. It was linked via the wiki page and then used the translate option. Some of the risks taken in the sport back then …
