Stephen Yaxley-Lennon

So reading through the bluster and the hand-wringing, he refused to do something he was legally bound to do and he's now whinging? What am I missing?

I'm sure one day he'll find the martyrdom he so desperately wants.
The issue was whether it was only by invoking the Terrorism Act powers that they stopped him to find out he was breaking the law... (See above).

And who's to say they don't have a point.
Most people would view the vandalism at RAF Brize Norton as unacceptable but does it drift into the realms of terrorism.
It's impossible to find a consensus internationally on what exactly constitutes a terrorist act.
Nah, every nation agrees:

We defend the law by shooting and bombing.

You commit terrorism by shooting and bombing.

How he ever thought he was going to leave the country with £16k i'll never know.

It was just giving the authorities a free hit to detain him.

He’ll earn more in the latest gofundme he’ll no doubt set up, even tho musk will probs be paying his legal fees. Needs to keep himself in the news to continue the endless grift. And his flock will gladly part with their cash. Absolute loons

I think you are missing the point here - there is a critical issue here which could be his ruination. Journalists have gone to prison for refusing to reveal their sources. Lennon claims to be a "citizen journalist". If the court disagrees it means legally he isn't a journalist and returns to the ranks of gobshite with an iPhone subject to the subsequent rules that apply in that instance and so his grift is threatened. Everything he is making a song and dance about is not what he is fearful of - its losing his "journalist" status and what that could mean for him.
I understand that, and I understand access to one’s phone is part of the Terroridm Act. I disagree with that. I believe it is a warrantless search and seizure of personal property, regardless of his desire to be considered a journalist, which is thin at best.

It may well be that he was targeted because of who he is but I would have thought it's the sort of profiling that would routinely happen at the border.

Single male, last minute trip, driving an expensive car that isn't his would all justify further questioning.

Not declaring the cash is an offence, and would certainly justify further investigation including looking for intelligence such as phone records.

Only surprise in this day and age that you still need someone's pin to read/download contacts and messages.
Terrorism? Really?

It’s the slippery slope I’ve discussed as museum on here, but when people find something to dislike in the person, they ignore the wider concept.

You’ve got to declare over 10,000. If you fail to declare, there are several possible penalties and the money might well be seized.
Then, he should be dealt with on that issue, no problem.

Additionally, it’s seizure and upto £5000 in fines. However, I didn’t know it was leaving, too.

Given that, he should have known better. The use of the Terroridm Act and searching his phone? Fuck that!

And, don’t think I don’t know the US border is a nightmare, too.

so you think a man who is a know convicted criminal and is out on licence travelling on an Irish passport ( because he boasts he has that ) in a very valuable car that doesn't belong to him with a bag full of cash looking to leave the country should not arouse Police suspicion? Thats so many red flags it looks like the kop on match day without the likelihood that he was also evading paying and tax on that money.

Well the first crime he committed was trying to take more than £10,000 out of the U.K. without declaring it.

That is a criminal offence.
With ya…
Anyway, the more this **** is exposed, inconvenienced, charged with any crime the better for me.
Agin ya…

We should never let personal animus colour our vision of the law, lest you be seen as the “wrong un” one day.

Read “And then they came for me…”

Sadly, the term “arouse police suspicion” is a phrase that should raise the hair on everyone’s neck at present.

That said…

Bring a convicted criminal: not a crime
Out on licence: not a crime
Traveling on an Irish passport: not a crime
Traveling in a valuable car: not a crime
Bag full of cash: sounds like a crime
Leaving the country: not a crime

I see ONE RED FLAG, plus personal prejudice.

Both fairly bog standard reasons to spend a bit more time on a passenger/traveller before letting them pass through the border.

At an airport, a single male travelling on a recently purchased ticket was almost a guarantee of getting looked at.
One way, cash…don’t do it!

As I said, my only comment was that it's fairly typical for someone to have that sort of checking given the circumstances of his trip.

I dont know anything about what hes been charged with.
