reality is however you do it, dodge this, dodge that, dodge the other, financial institutions make money on currency exchanges - accept this and just take the easiest route for you. Generally I have a a few hundred dollars or euros to hand almost all the time but equally I'll pay for stuff on cards when I need to. You can't win, and the effort in squeezing out a few quid in savings is not worth MY time.

And neither is it mine. We go away in the winter for a couple of months so it's a long time away to carry just cash. The banks in Thailand charge £6(unavoidable charge) to use an ATM so I do get a big amount out each time, but of course as it's a cash withdrawal interest is charged straight away. I "pre load" it and interest is then absolutely minimal. The good thing is the exchange rate is usually pretty close to the published exchange rates.

Your bank will screw you.
Halifax clarity credit card or Barclaycard which has one with no charges. Get an HSBC international currency card and preload it or take dollars.

Indeed. I think people should take a test before being allowed into the security area. How people can still not be aware that you aren't allowed to take big liquids through is beyond me.

I always find it incredible how many bags fail.

The other one for me is when there are two ways onto the aircraft and you get someone in row 27 getting on at the front when it’s obvious it’s near the back!

Recently got back from the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana). There’s some beautiful beaches and clear blue sea over there. However, be really careful where you eat. I ate some food on Saona Island which was a big mistake. I ended up with a bad stomach for around ten days.

Revolut card is my thing. Use it everywhere currently in Latvia, put Euros on it from my current account excellent rate €1.14 as opposed to less I’ve seen elsewhere. Use at ATM, and drawing Euros no charge unlike my bank debit card.
Also believe they may be a City sponsor in some form.

I only carry a preloaded card for emergencies. Whenever I can I use Halifax Clarity credit card then if anything goes wrong I lose nothing.

Im just back from a week in El Cotillo...never been to Fuerteventura before...really enjoyed it...although it was VERY quiet...and very windy, which helped as it was also very hot.

Had a hire car, and itr felt like driving across Mars in places...theres an awful lot of nothing on that island :-)

Why are the airlines so busy at the moment, thought October would be quiet.
Trying to get to China, the Cathay flights havent got a seat all week, Emirates 380 flew out this morning without a spare seat and are rammed all week, tried different European Hubs but all the same .
Is it always this busy in October or am I missing something .

Tempted to grab the last gasps of summer, even if pricings have gone a little skew whiff toward the accomodation side of things. Best I can see for self catering is 10 days at Halley apartments (full refurb) at circa £540 on a full package deal.

And if any whingers nip over from the Blackpool thread to have a moan at Benidorm, then spare a thought for poor Mr Heel who's gotten himself stuck in Venice for a week. Nice lad our Dennis and deserves a lot more bangs for his bucks at his age. Can picture him downing a few scoops of the amber before riding the bull of death on the Calle Gerona.
