The Piccadilly Gardens Problem - new development proposal (P32)

Burnham Scouse

Deputy Mayor Jock

Bev Craig Irish

Stephen Watson At least he's English I think but again not a Mancunian

Manchester is fucked turn the lights out.
A lot of the homeless aren’t locals either. Heard all sorts of accents from Scouse to Yorkshire to Glaswegian around Manchester cc. Manchester is like a Mecca for the country’s homeless to come to.

Same as those new city centre residents I mentioned in my post above, loads seem to be Southerners.

Similarly, loads of the shouty voices you hear at all these annoying protests are Southern voices.

Don't worry most of the negative posters on here haven't been in the gardens for decades and are taking youtube cranks word as gospel

I go through it daily and it is just the average shithole it was in the 80s/90s/00s
I have to disagree. Going through there daily may mean you have not noticed the gradual difference.
I used to work in town but haven't for 20 plus years so rarely go through the gardens nowadays. But going that way on Jury service earlier this year I have to say the place has got "less nice".

I’ve said for many years that Liverpool and Newcastle city centres are much nicer to look at at street level, more pleasant to be in when walking around and are much friendlier than Manchester city centre.

Even Leeds which is fairly unspectacular as a city centre is cleaner and has noticeably fewer cunts hanging around the streets than Manchester cc.

And, as you say, Manchester is getting worse rather than better.

Manchester is constantly improving its skyline, but the streetscapes are a disgrace. Manchester is a graffiti, litter, gang, street drugs taking and street drinking pisshead ridden moody shithole at street level.

Even the general public in Manchester have an unfriendly and impolite feel about them these days; and that’s not just the dregs of society around PiccGdns, it includes all the boring wankers who live in the city centre these days and frequent the pubs but don’t have an ounce of jovial banter or conversation with strangers about them.

Manchester seems to have lost its Northern friendliness in the last decade or so. It’s just become a Northern London.
Seems to have transformed into a city that wants to be "edgy" and "cool" .

With this comes "edgy" and "cool" people and the associated recreational drugs culture, leading to shady twats flogging drugs and fighting other shady twats selling drugs.

This then gives you lots of messed up users congregating and loitering in search of drugs or money for drugs.

The levels of antisocial behaviour spiral and in come the YouTubers with their faux "concern" and desire for clicks. In some cases aforementioned shady twats act up for the cameras, further denigrating the reputation of the city and dissuading people from venturing into the centre.

Is it any good in there? Not been in since it was Mother Macs.
It’s just ‘okay’.

One good thing it does is that on Mondays it’s £4 for a pint of Guinness or Boddies (which is excellent for the city centre). And the quieter middle floor is often quiet and it has a jukebox so you’re free to choose your own songs to put on a lot of the time.

However, it’s aesthetically fairly average (especially upstairs which I think has been done poorly with very uncomfortable and shit looking tables and chairs) and hasn’t utilised space particularly well.

Plus the punters haven’t been particularly chatty when I’ve been in. A bit of an ‘everyone sat looking at their own phone screen’ sort of clientele, even when they’re in groups.

Denis Mitchell was the Charlie Veitch of '57...he spent the night filming in Manchester talking to to the nightwatchmen and ladies of the night...people seemed less enamoured with the camera, though the religious tricks seem very much similar, perhaps a tad less aggressive.

stop talking bollocks. Homeless Jocks go to that London

Some on here actually believe that if these scrotes weren't filmed then they wouldn't be there and the problem would magically disappear, Schrodinger's vermin if you will.
These YouTubers have too much time on their hands……all chasing clicks and likes thinking this will be a lifetimes career.

The spotlight is really on this area now. Mostly because of the YouTubers documenting the area. The morals and the motives of the people behind the camera are very very questionable. But it is raising the legitimate question of whether our main hub for train and bus footfall can ever recover. Personally, I think the area might have to be cleared, and replaced with yet another high rise tower. I know it just moves the problem but think we've arrived at the point where we have to say we can't sustain the area and it's reputation

The danger is that it has become socially acceptable to walk around Piccadilly smacked off your tits or drunk as a skunk smelling like a piss stained matrasses being violent and abusive to the public.

It needs to not be OK it needs to be sorted so that people can walk around without being accosted by a toothless heroin addict, filming these cunts doesn't make them worse but it does show that they are there.

Just need a firehose and soak all the scruffs congregating. Anyone kicks off gets a few batons round the legs and their head banged off the van door as they get nicked.

That’s what happened when City fans congregated around Piccadilly Gardens when celebrating our CL win. Dogs and batons were out, people being twatted in the shins.

Simple really, nuke the place

No, remove the park, the walls etc, turn off the fountain when its on.

Have a proper police presence on the area, street drinking? Take it off people, they do it again then follow up with the proper powers.

Heck I would even block off the full area so nobody can access it, remove the market part to another part of the city centre, where its a little more open for expansion and doesnt allow scumbags to run amok inbetween the stalls

It has been usurped by protesters, drunks and drug users and taken from the people who want a haven from the city and a sit down and a relaxing time.

It's the shittiest Central Park in existence mate.
