Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv - away fans banned | MTA confirm they will refuse any allocation for safety reasons (p26)

This isn't about religion. Religion is only the backdrop to the problem.
Maccabi fans have form for violence. The city of Birmingham doesn't want them. It's happened to violent sets of fans (and those perceived to be violent ) for decades.
End of story. Or at least it should be.

This ban is not antisemitic. That's a strawman and everyone knows it.
The constant spin of antisemitism, every time any Israeli institution is criticised (even for genocide/ quasi-genocidal war crimes ffs), is wholly shameless and a disservice to decent people everywhere.
It needs to be called out for the scurrilous and disingenuous behaviour it is because the world is sliding downhill to a stage where the term, antisemitism, is in real danger of losing its value.

Quite simply, for humanity's sake, that's a dangerous road for us all to be on.

Absolutely this. As I said earlier there’s a big difference between anti semetism and anti Israeli.

Israel is not in Europe, why are they competing in a competitionfor European teams? . At least 6 Israeli football teams play at locations on illegally occupied Palestinian land in breach of FIFAs own rules

UEFA originally announced an indefinite ban on English clubs with Liverpool having an extra 3 years. The ban was to be lifted when the English fans could demonstrate better behaviour. After the World Cup in 1990 when the fans were largely well behaved UEFA announced a lifting of the ban on English clubs, with Liverpool serving an extra year. This was after nited won the FA Cup. You may want to correct me again on this Mad Eyed, but that’s my memory of why nited were allowed back in Europe early.
I know the passage of time can play tricks with the memory but I’m sure there was talk at the back end of the 1988/89 season that the ban might be lifted in time for the 1989/90 season. Not necessarily for Liverpool but for all other clubs. However, just around the same time that there was increasing noise about this the Hillsborough disaster happened and while that wasn’t down to hooliganism all the talk of a lifting of the ban went on the back burner for a year.

See, I've always had huge sympathy with the cause of the Palestinian people. I think Israeli foreign policy is abhorrent and the Nethanyahu government is guilty of countless war crimes. I was even chuffed when Starmer recognised the state of Palestine. Absolutely the right thing to do and how can one claim Israel has a right to exist but Palestine does not?

However, I don't equate that to every single Israeli football fan not being allowed to step foot into my city because local members of our community can not control themselves. Would a percentage of Tel Aviv fans be knobheads, absolutely, just like the majority of European fan bases that come to VP looking for trouble. However, anyone even trying to pretend that the threat would be on the local community is utterly kidding themselves. 1000 Tel Aviv fans would be no match for the tens of thousands of young muslim lads that will gather from inner city brum and absolutely pick them off for fun. A few hundred ultras shouting shitty racist chants will not stand a chance & would be mince meat if not protected.

You saw what happens on the streets of Birmingham when groups with anti muslim sentiment threaten to turn up during last years riots, last year, you even had sky news and LBC reporters being chased down streets for having the audacity to turn up and report. I remember listening to reporters absolutely gobsmacked at what they had witnessed, which made me laugh, they have no idea what it's like to live within these parts.

As for it being nothing to do with being jewish. I dare anyone to walk around Witton, parts of Aston, Lozells, Alum Rock, Bordesley Green, Sparkbrook, Sparkhill (I could go on and on and on) with say a kippah. You wouldn't survive. And unfortunately that's what lies underneath the surface of this argument, anyone in denial doesn't live in it and doesn't experience it.
Your post is so good that a lot will choose to ignore it.

The indefinite ban was lifted in the summer of 1990. Any fair minded person would expect it to be for the 1990/91 season when all teams (bar Liverpool)would know they would be competing for European places. But in effect, they retrospectively allowed nited back in Europe for winning the FA Cup the previous season.

If we’re being honest, they like Russian sides should not be allowed to compete full stop.

Not that they should be competing in Europe anyway as non European side!

I don’t agree at all. This isn’t about safety, it’s about perception. Many major club have a minority of fans who cause trouble, and police forces up and down the country know how to deal with them without banning entire groups of supporters.
The idea that Maccabi fans can’t be safely managed in Birmingham just doesn’t hold up. We’ve hosted fans from across Europe, including clubs with far worse reputations for violence, without resorting to blanket bans.
This decision is less about crowd control and more about politics. When Israeli teams or fans are treated differently under the pretext of “security,” it’s hard not to see another motive.
It's a fact that fans are going to turn up without tickets. This will make policing in the city centre harder, not safer.

Brilliant post. Well said.

I don't doubt that all fans of Russian football teams are not pro-Putin, nevertheless they've been banned from European competition with sound justification. Given the current climate, and the fact this lot have previous for behaving like scumbags, it was a sensible decision to ban the away following.

And you're quite right, a thousand Tel Aviv fans would be no match for thousands of young Muslims, so why should WMP be forced to endure that prospective gauntlet?

This has fuck all to do with anti-Semitism; when a country have decided to go down a route of genocidal cuntishness, expect repercussions. They don't get to hide behind the anti-Semitism card and claim victimhood. Couple that with the fact that this team in particular have called for the death of Arabs and innocent children, and have caused riots in other European cities, and the only conclusion is that this ban was a sensible decision.

"This ban is not antisemitic. "
So how many other, non Jewish, away fans have been banned from matches in England. Out of the hundreds of games over the past decade.

Just like those labelling Israeli response to terror attacks as "genocide" are not "antisemitic", not at all, they just happen to exceedingly concerned about "human rights" when, and only when, it's the sole Jewish nation but not at all when Hindus are wiped out in Pakistan and Bangladesh, Jews in Iraq, Armenians in Turkey, Christians are attacked in Nigeria....or when their own western countries butcher people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya...

Fuck all to do with anti-semitism? Are you actually joking. We’ve just had a horrific anti semitic attack in Manchester. The police are majorly concerned with another attack happening at this game and wide spread racism.

To say it’s nothing to do with anti semitism is ridiculous. Your clearly burying your head in the sand.

If it wasn’t this team and it was another team from Isreal the same threats would be there.

“when a country have decided to go down a route of genocidal cuntishness” did they? Last time I checked it was the government that did that, not the people

Legia warsaw fans were banned, Old firm matches have been without away fans multiple times, but keep believing it's just "anti semitic", I guess Frankfurt fans getting banned from Naples is "anti German" racism
