4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

One good game at the very start.

Since then he's been mediocre.

Hopefully he's just getting up to speed with the intensity of this league.
I’m not sure,he’s 27 so he doesn’t have the luxury of a year or two bedding in as some have already said. He actually looks completely out of his depth. He offers nothing .

Fernandinho played like a headless chicken at times during his first season under Pep, and that was at the age of 31 after three seasons in England. From there, it clicked. Reijnders has things to learn but he'll get there. We've asked a #10 to play as a #6 and an #8 this season while getting used to a new team and a new league. He's had good days and bad days, he'll have more of both, but he's getting there imo.

The bedding in excuse is given every time we sign a player. It would be quite nice to buy one who actually hits the ground running. Only Haaland has done that in the last 3 years and maybe Donnarumma too.

He cost £47m
Which is fuck all in this day and age. We want to compete with the best we need to be going out paying top prices for the best rather than 2nd rate players we can get off clubs that are desperate to sell or players that have low buy out clause’s

With reijnders it’s quite clear what the issue is. He’s not been good enough offensively and he can’t contribute defensively so he has become a nothing player. Incredibly inefficient with the ball too. I wouldn’t be too fussed if he was younger but he’s 27 and we have five good years of him max and four if he continues at this current trajectory.

The bigger issue is that our more experienced midfielders will leave after this season so hopefully he improves drastically.

Well off the pace. Not sure what his best position actually is, given his age did expect more of an impact.

Disagree with Ferny.

He was utterly immense in his first season with us and we wouldn't have won the league without him. We had finally found a replacement for Barry after his shocking 2012/13 season along side Garcia.

His second and third season were a little off, but it didn't help him that Toure looked like he was on his last legs and he was doing the work of two men in a Pellegrini system that played very high risk high reward football.

Read it again.

And that's one of the problems with this team, far too many players who could play the 10 role at a high standard, and not enough players who can play the 8 or on the wing's at a high standard. Our recruitment for playing this formation has been really poor.

Don’t forget we’ve also needed to sign a number of other players as part of a big rebuild (after already spending loads in January) so couldn’t spend too much on individual players.

If we only needed to replace Gündoğan, fair enough but in 2025 we’ve needed to replace Ederson, Walker, Akanji, long-term Stones and Aké, McAtee, De Bruyne, Álvarez, a back-up for Rodri and a left back. We’ve spent £393m in 2025 and that’s without replacing Walker.

Even with that, we wanted Wirtz but he didn’t want us, nowt we can do about that. Alex Baena was always going to Atlético (he actually cost less than Reijnders but wouldn’t have played much anyway as he’s had appendicitis). Pedri isn’t leaving Barça. Madrid won’t be selling Valverde. Musiala signed a new contract at Bayern. Rice wouldn’t come to us from West Ham so he’s not going to leave Arsenal to come to us. Bellingham didn’t want to sign for us. We sold Palmer. Szoboszlai only just signed for Liverpool last year and they’d never sell him to us. And the idea of signing Fernandez from the Rags gives me an itch, plus they’d never sell him to us anyway.

The best weren’t available or didn’t want to play for us, so we have to look at less than the best. Unfortunately, that means we don’t have a top player to replace Gündoğan but even the player we did sign wasn’t cheap when you consider all our other expenditure.

If I was kovatic I would be livid how this lad is starting ,had his chance needs to sit on the bench now and watch how to be a premier league player ,so disappointed after that wolves game thought we had got a world class player

That run and shot after the lovely flick from Foden pretty much summed his performances up since Wolves

I be honest I don't see what he gives to the team at times. 1.goal and 2 assists so far and he has played all the games in the league. He's not a kid ready made for the team. We have 2 huge games in league coming up at home the next 2 he needs to show up. Maybe we will get Rodri back for those 2 games we just need to see more from that midfield in general.
I do wonder with Kovacic and Cherki back will we rotate the central area. I fully expect those 2 to start the cup game in mid week.
