Why does the EFL (Carabao Cup) and FA Cup reward the winners so little money?

It's nowt to do with the EFL or PL. UEFA specify how teams qualify, though too many pundits don't seem to realise this.

Also, the LC was introduced in the early 60s to bring in more gate money. The competition rarely generated significant interest before the final was moved to Wembley in 1967 and a European place awarded to the winners. Prior to that the final was over two legs.
Stoke v City in the 63-64 semi-final was watched by 21,000 but the return at Maine Road was only 16,891, possibly because we lost the first game 2-0.
Spot on! Like you say it is amazing that the majority of football followers don't realise that it is Uefa who have always decided. The LC is very lucky that it allocated a Europa league spot. It is time that the 2 legged semi is dropped too.

Or even give a CL place to the winner?

I'm sure it's the FA that cam do that and not the PL.

It would make clubs kick off, but as you say they'd field their best teams to get a random entry into that competition should the draw drop favourably.
You can’t do it. The CL places can’t be given for award in cup competitions. The Dutch had to change their playoff system a few years ago because they were designed to fight for a Champions League place, now they are designed to fight for Europa League and Conference league places.

Surprised the EFL prize money is so small. To the big clubs in the PL, it's almost literally worthless. We probably spend more than that on staples. That's not taking the piss, by the way. It's just a fact. I'm assuming there's some clause that clubs can't opt out of the competition. Because I'd guess that, if they could, they would.
There is a reg making FA CUP mandatory. In the original 115 bodged charge sheet we were accused of not entering one year, because the brilliant PL did not realise that rules often changed numbers. I think we were also accused of not cutting the grass in accordance with regulations.

What would you prefer - winning the FA Cup but missing out on Champions League qualification or not winning the Cup but finishing 3rd and getting into the CL?

Depends on the club and the situation.

If you know you’re going to be a top side long term, one year out of the CL won’t impact the club too much, I’d rather win the trophy.

For Palace fans, going off last season, I’m sure they’re happier to have beaten us in the FA Cup to win their first ever trophy (even if that ended up with the club being knocked down to the Europa Conference).

For a club like the Rags, I think CL qualification would be more important. They aren’t a top side and they can’t guarantee they’d be up there again the next season if they missed out on the CL. But the money from CL qualification may give them a chance of building a top team.

Teams with financial difficulties would probably need CL.

Everyone, the EFL included are on a campaign to scrap the League Cup.
We also have Prick Parry in charge of the EFL and we all know what his aim is, make everything easy for Liverpool whilst making his mates at Sky TV rich.

The FA are on autopilot, seriously do they do anything? I’m convinced that you can go to the FA’s HQ on any given day and there will be no one there except the accountant who has to process all the expenses claims, although at this point I’m sure all the major players just have a credit card that has direct debit linked to it.
If there's no League Cup how can Liverpool make their annual challenge for an unprecedented quadruple?

The FA Cup prize money has gone up a lot since covid, the minimum you get for winning it is £4.144m , and they introduced losing prize money too.

Also increased is the the % gate for the clubs.

Some of it was to make up for losing replays, the rest as clubs were skint.

The prize money for the league one sides and below is still relatively lucrative in the fa cup if they can win a 3rd round tie - equates to £250k by winning 3 games.

If they’re going to keep the EFL, the could exclude any teams playing in European competition, that season. The winners this year would get into Europe without having to play, City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Spurs, Villa, Palace and Forest. Great chance for Brighton, Fulham, Everton and the rest.

Simod Cup then...

Take those teams out and the TV companies would pull out but if not pull out entirely certainly drop the money offered to show it

The winners would still be good enough to progress in the Euro Conference, but would UEFA be willing to offer a place to a team that won a domestic cup without having to potentially get past the seven or eight teams in Europe?

Looking at some of the scores across Europe recently, UEFA don’t seem to give a monkeys about quality it’s all just about quantity.
The biggest downside is that there’s still a good chance that the mid table PL teams would play a weakened team which would sort of defeat the object.

I fully agree that it is time that the 2 legged semi finals were dropped but god help us if some clown decides to replace them with a semifinal in mid week at Wembley :-(

But this thread was started on how little money is available for the EFL cup. The championship is the 5th most watched league in Europe, so I think Sky would be more than happy to show it. Don’t forget, their beloved history club would have been in it this year as well. At least until they drew the mighty Grimsby…

Ha!
But they but TV rights on annual cycles and the Championship being watched on a Saturday afternoon is different to watching it in half empty stadiums on a Tuesday night - I’m currently in Bali on holiday so I’m currently experiencing the horrific time zone differences with midweek games so international rights would be almost impossible to sell without ‘big’ teams
