City are building one hell of a young squad when you look at the ages of the players we have. Doku 23, Bobb 22, Nico G 23, NOR 20, Reis 19, Cherki 22, Foden 25, Donnaruma 26, Haaland 25, Savinho 21, Gvardiol 23, Lewis 20, Echeverri 19, Ait-Nouri 24, Marmoush 26, Khusanov 21. And there are some very talented youngsters in the academy and out on loan.

The future is looking very bright indeed.

Just said this in another thread:

I always say players don’t even reach their prime until they hit 26. The combination of having built experience, quality, consistency, fitness, strength all coming together for about four years from then on.

Many of our lads are a few years away from that yet. Even by then Haaland, Foden, Donnarumma, will still only be 28/29 and still in their prime.

The only thing in the short-term, is that inconsistency is still a facet of players’ games until they reach their prime. So there could still be performances like Villa or Brighton in there from time-to-time, but you can see a lot of these lads growing and improving already, and long-term the future is bright.

Out of that list we don't know what will happen with Reis and Echeverri. and frankly Bobb, Savinho and Lewis just do not look good enough.

Let's take stock in January.

Savinho has the physical talent, the decision making will come with time. Lewis is a midfielder, has no business being on a PL back line. Bobb is a good player but just never struck me as ever being a fixture of the first team core. Just a peripheral utility attacking player. Nothing wrong with that.

Echeverri is just a very raw player so yeah we don't know what's there.

My biggest concern with Reis is the absolute mental breakdown that will surely have come from having to play for this seasons Girona team.

Guaranteed someone will moan though.

It feels odd that Foden is now amongst the senior players.
I agree, our squad has long term potential. Nearly all the old boys have now left, with our thanks. 2 or 3 more will go by June, who will be the father figure next year?

Nobody can predict the future, but you can build for a better future

The Manchester City project set out to get the best and become the best.
Manchester City never stand still and the future plans are just as important as the right here right now

On the crest of a Cherki-wave. He's playing like Gio Kinkladze and only the match-going City fans know it because BBC Football is doing its level best to hide the light.

In March-April, in time for the title push, the stadium goes to 60k. The push is on. The home fans have not played their part yet. We've been quiet. On Saturday, let's change that.
