Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I was surprised that we dominated them in every area of the pitch.
Our front four is incredibly talented, so I understood that they may not be able to keep us out, but we won individual battles everywhere and I think that we destroyed them mentally quite early in the game with several of their players not knowing who to pick up, nor how. If you pick up Doku, you have O'Reilly overlapping and Foden inside. If you pick up Cherki, you have Nunes overlapping. And you have Gonzalez being able to pick them out from deep. We were better individually, physically, tactically, and mentally.

And a look on RAWK shows several posters saying that they were outdone tactically and mentally.
Mind you, others state that we didn't create a chance and quote endless XG stats to prove their denial. It takes all sorts.

Fucking hell ive seen some weird takes on here but Gvardiol as a midfielder because we are uncomfortable with him in defence? the only time we have looked secure at the back anytime in the last 18 months is when he starts at CB he solidifies the whole defence, also he is nowhere near mobile enough to run a midfield he would look so out of place in there.
It’s no "we," who are uncomfortable with Joško at centre-back, only @noseve.

I think Gvardiol is a wonderful defender. He’s still only young for a central defender, and will grow and grow into the rôle.

Perfectly summed up.

My first thought was “are they saying John Oliver is a cheat?” but then I thought the wording was all wrong, because it would need to be “objective” not “subjective.”

However, upon a reread, it appears it is CityXtra’s wording, not Liverpool’s, that is wrong in the above posting.

I’d like to see what Liverpool actually said before inferring they were effectively calling Oliver a cheat!

Fucking social media setting the agenda with dodgy reporting will be the death of me!
Michael Oliver.

I’m not sure their goal was offside, as in, he was offside but barely interfering… but I’ve only seen it back at half time in the ground.

However, we were owed a decision against them after:

CL games 2018:
Salah was offside for his goal
David Silva was brought down (legs swept from under him), no pen given
Sterling was brought down (legs swept from under him), no pen given
Jesus was onside for that late in the second half disallowed goal that would have given us an away goal.
Milner hand balled it at our place, no pen given
Milner played the ball for the Sané goal meaning Sané wasn’t offside, goal disallowed for offside

Prem Oct18:
Agüero brought down, no pen given

Prem Jan19:
Sterling was fouled by Robertson, no pen given

Prem Nov19:
Alexander-Arnold hand-balled it, clear as day he looked at the ball and stiffened his arm, no pen given and they scored up the other end.
Salah was offside for his goal and VAR wasn’t even used.
Pep has even said that VAR ‘wasn’t working’ in the first half.
Mane pushed Sterling in the back, no pen given.

Prem Oct21:
Milner brought down Foden, no pen given.
Milner twice escaped getting a second yellow (both were bookable offences)

Prem Apr22:
No red cards for either Fabinho or Thiago (Fabinho’s could have been a straight red), then he avoided another yellow for a bookable offence challenge after the yellow he got when he should have been sent off

Prem Oct21:
Ref was letting minor physical contact go ALL game, we score a goal but they disallow it for a minor physical infringement in the build up but then allow four of the same instances of this go in favour of Liverpool throughout the rest of the game.

Prem Nov23:
Dias’ goal was disallowed for a ‘nothing’ infringement on their keeper, Akanji just jumped for the ball and happened to touch the keeper.

I’ve probably missed some…

Wasn’t there a dodgy one in the season we were going to the First Division title with them in 1977?
And I thought I had a good memory. Cap doffed, unfortunately for the wrong reasons.

City need to send this to the pl or at least a savvy YouTuber get this out in the ether. Now That's What I Call Fixed For Dippers volume 45.

Sadly I remember every one of these incidents now you list them and can feel my low BP increasing!!

Interesting - this is going to be their Rodri “handball” vs Everton moment for this season isn’t it - where they forgot about the offside.
It is also why they are hated by all other clubs' fans. They have now complained to PGMOL about the decision and Sky insists it is "not sour grapes". Prob good overall as they will be in denial over their inadequacies and the fact that we played them off the Etihad turf.

I think the thing that’s going unnoticed is that we have the legs to have more flexible formations.

When going forward, we definitely have a 4-2-3-1 that can transition into a very aggressive 2-2-6, or a very stable 3-2-5. However, of greater importance is the 4-5-1 we have been collapsing into.

Yes. I was concerned that we may be overrun in central midfield but the three behind Haaland have all been diligent in their defensive work, augmented by excellent performances from the full-backs.

Was thinking the very same today, they’ve got some neck moaning to pigmol.
Send that list to the BBC and Sky, I’m sure theyll happily run it all week for us.
