Will we win the league this season?

Need to improve our away form to completely make me believe because it’s not convincing up to now and Newcastle away is a good game to see if we go back to the Villa performance! Long way to go still with this team..

The Villa performance wasn't actually bad though. We were unlucky, lost to a good strike, just one of those days we often had in the last 10 years IMO. Nothing like last season.

Agree we were missing Gonzales O’Reily and Doku! Why I said this Newcastle game will be be interesting to see where we are now we settled we up to speed so I expect us to win

I thought we were a bit meh in that Villa game but like you say, nowhere near as bad as last season or the season before for that matter. No Rodri or Nico G in the starting line-up was probably a factor. It won't be often that neither of them start for us.

We do need to improve our away form of course but the performances over the past week indicate that we could be about to see an uptick in results away from home too.

Of course we fecking can. We’re four points off top and getting better every game. The dips aren’t good enough and neither is snot. Arsenal the one’s to beat. Bring it on.

Villa pissed me off loads because I reckon we'd have won it comfortably if Nico would have been fit enough to start.
I said after that game we had another few of those type of performances in us looking ahead. If we can minimise them and keep this type of tempo going then it could be a very nice season.

Can only beat what’s in front of you mate, and what i saw us beat was the premier league champions 3-0 :-)
The famous Anfield Kopites couldn’t deal with the Etihad atmosphere once again and got run over.
Beating Liverpool was enjoyable but Utd beat Liverpool at Anfield and Liverpool have not won a domestic away game in 2 months. This season City threw off the vestiges of old age unlike Liverpool who quite stupidly embraced the old, and who now pay the price. What is more convincing is the league table after 11 matches and the emergence of a new Manchester City. Pep is comfortable in his skin. He has revitalised City, whilst Arsenal, and their coach carry an aura of stress. We wait for them to crack.

United were playing Liverpool right in the middle of a slump.

We played (and dominated) Liverpool after they had just defeated and made Madrid look ordinary plus with an extra days rest.

Liverpool weren’t great but we were very good let’s not undersell that performance.

I'm going to make an important point.

I think we'd be top right now if we didn't play in the Club World Cup.

We had no pre-season and were clearly undercooked when we played Spurs and Brighton. We were probably lucky that we played Wolves on the opening day, who we now know were just a bit rubbish. Those 2 defeats kind of distorted the narrative behind us and gave a false impression of how we were developing as a team.

We've now played Arsenal and Liverpool - our toughest opponents - and have 4 points. It was so close to being 6 as well.

Fun fact:

We haven't lost a league game with O'Reilly in the first XI: 11 wins and 2 draws. We have won with him 35 pts from 39 available.

Our only loss in all compets with him was in the FA Cup final vs Palace.

All performances are relative. I give more significance to the outcome of 11 league games than a one-off game against a dysfunctional Liverpool. They haven't recovered regardless of what BBC Football might say. They somersault every week.

O'Reilly has been a revelation but I think the real reason for this points return is him allowing us to partner Gvardiol and Dias at CB.

Arsenal’s first two PL games after the international break will hopefully prove tricky. North London Derby at home followed by away at Chelsea
I assume you wrote "North London Derby" rather than Spurs because the latter makes it clear it's anything but tricky? ;)

Can we win the league? Yes.
Are we playing more exciting stuff? Yes.
Have we played any teams who shut up shop and counter recently? Not really.

The way we're playing is great, but there are games where we won't play this way, opposition tactics will be different and so will ours. I don't know YET if we're just doing well against certain types of teams, or whether we're just fantastic now. I'd like to think it's the latter, but at the moment I still see a slip up for us as likely as a slip up for Arsenal.

However, I've always said if we're within 6 points of Arsenal by around mid-Feb, then they should be very worried.
