Last Film You Saw

A House of Dynamite

It was alright. Nothing special. Got a book very similar (by Annie Jacobsen), which I rate higher than the film.

Watched the new Frankenstein film last night and was very impressed. Thought it was superb and the cinematography stunning. Great costumes and sets. Interesting take on the plot, highlighting the life story of Victor Frankenstein and that of his tragic creation. Would be even better in a cinema. 9/10
Surprised a del Toro film has got such a limited theatrical release, after Labyrinth and the Shape of Water.

The Choral is worth a watch. I hadn't realised it was an Alan Bennett story.

WW1 and the Ramsden Choral Society is missing a lot of its male voices, and the chorus master signs up. Next choice is Dr Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes) who had been working in Germany. They were going to perform Bach's St Matthew Passion but have to find a non-German composer. Lots of side-plots - some dealing with the dreaded telegram - but a lot of irreverence and insensitivity and crude humour. In the end they go for Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius (but some don't like that that was based on a Catholic text about purgatory). Not much of a spoiler but they adapt it so the main voices are a dying soldier and a nurse - and when the vicar says he doesn't believe in purgatory a soldier who's lost an arm launches into comparing No Man's Land with Purgatory. Ramsden is played by Saltaire.

Just watched The Fantastic 4 first steps and have to say I was very pleasantly surprised after reading bad reviews on it.
Not woke or anything like that, just good entertainment . 8/10

Watched it last night. All of the actors were a bit wasted I felt.

I thought it was very good, think they pretty much summed up the effect such a situation would have on people, although I do think the initial premise ie
missile from an unidentified source
, was a little weak.

In terms of the ending, I don't think they could have done anything other than that

I watched I, Tonia earlier - way better than I expected - I liked the way the actors broke the 4th wall now and again and some excellent cinematography
