Stadium Developments thread - New Birmingham City Stadium revealed (p57)

Complete chalk and cheese difference between the rags stadium project and this. Birmingham aren’t putting together committees with Seb Coe involved, no begging bowl to the local council or government to get extra cash brought in. It will be built quicker as well, it’s been nearly 12 months seen we saw the tent design being showcased. Then they’ve gone back to the drawing board and we’ve seen nothing since.

I agree it is distinctive, ambitious, and has a definite identity.

But I also think it is ugly as fuck. It is discordant, haphazard, and the disproportionate.

As you say, all subjective. I dare say many are impressed by the polish on the visuals.

Had a good chat with a Blues fan in the pub last night and the general consensus amongst their supporters is hugely positive.

I think things that are strikingly different will always evoke differing responses. And can absolutely see why others don’t like it.

People need to look past the chimneys, even though they are the focal points of the proposal, and look at the detail of the proposal.

Brick, arches, curves, overhangs, copper cladding, etc.
I still don’t think Birmingham need a 62,000 capacity stadium.

I don't like it. I'm sorry, but that's my honest opinion.

I recognise its originality, ambition and its staying true to a strong (even if completely pastiche) concept. Putting aside that the concept itself spits in the face of structural sensibility.

But I think the end result is grotesque. I use that as a descriptive word rather than for its effect.

Lob those chimeys off at roof level and we can maybe talk. That's my genuine reaction to it.

Don't get me wrong, I like different. I do.

I don't like this one. I don't like the wrexham one either. I like and get what both are trying to do, but the end result is an uncomfortable mess. Simply being different might be enough for some but it is not enough for me. I do like the Etihad btw, always have. Some would argue that is 'different', with the spirals and outside supports. Might be a bit bland for the bulk of it, but the spirals work as a feature and are far more balanced and pleasant overall.

Funnily enough, that lad in the pub was talking about our spirals. Think they are doing the same there but in the interior. I told him it takes far longer to get down them from the top tier than you’d think!

I too like the Etihad.

I was pretty blown away by Spurs’ stadium when I saw us play there last season (my first visit).

It is amazing inside, though.

I went to one of the NFL games and it has been designed to accommodate that experience as well, and it has to be said, it worked very well indeed.

The only downside was exiting to the train stations, we were heading in the opposite direction to most people but we could not get on the station, they eventaully shut them down and we had to walk to the third or fourth one along towards Enfield before we could get one.

I think what had happened was people going left, got on the right facing train and just stayed on the train as it is a dead end line and then the train/s were full coming back up the way.

Other than that and the result it was a great day lol

The transport set up around Spurs’ stadium is horrific.

This guy is spot on in a lot of his comments. At Manchester City, we were promised a Blue Wall from the chairman, only for his management team below him not to deliver on what was promised, instead giving us a mish-mash of a North Stand

First of all, well done to Birmingham City for releasing plans for what they are doing. This gives their fans hope for the future, as the West Ham fan says it reminds him of Battersea, and Chelsea's plans

It appears that Birmingham is seeking to utilise its stadium for various events, including NFL games, concerts, and boxing matches, which will generate revenue similar to what Spurs have achieved.

The Manica Stadium design team have a vision for creating a stadium with an amazing atmosphere. They have two-steep home and away ends, which help create atmosphere. I wonder what they would have done with our North Stand

The new wave of stadium designs from all over the world is not just about designing a stadium; it's all about creating an entertainment district that the stadium sits in, keeping the fans at the stadium before and after the game

The shape of the original roof was a nice piece of architecture.

However, back then the inside of the stadium looked unfinished.

Now the architecture of the outside of the stadium is clunky and, in my opinion will be ugly, but the inside of the stadium will look more finished and nicer when inside the bowl of the stadium.

It will never get built anyway, or at least not like that. They will eventually admit what they've known all along - that those chimneys are self-defeating. And that all this is one shiny expensive PR exercise.

Was told by someone who would absolutely know that the shites new stadium will start next season.
They are spending absolutely bare minimum on maintaining old toilet in the mean time
