Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

In a game like that we need a real hard tackling mid-fielder in the mould of a Fernandinho who can also dish it out. As others have said we are a bit soft. It's doubtful Rodri when fit can fulfil that role as I suspect he will play in a more controlled manner given his knee issues
Yeah, I said similar, was obvious ref was letting their midfield 3 get away with bullying us - Tonali/Bruno/Joelinton against Nico/Bernie/Phil - complete mismatch.

Considering we could’ve gone a point behind arsenal and we’re supposed to be fighting for a title that performance was piss poor.
As of tomorrow it’ll now be 7 points.
I could moan about the ref being shit, he was but what cost us points today was us.
The way we started the game give them hope and belief.
Nearly 1-0 down in the first minute fucking around at the back.
We defended shit and if it wasn’t for Donnarumma the scoreline would be much worse.
Wasted chances handed to them on a silver platter wrapped in a big bow.
The biggest problem we’ve got is we’re a fucking soft mard arse team who hide when the going gets tough.
Where’s the fight?
The energy?
The desire?
Newcastle kicked the crap out of us from minute one and what did we do?
We did nothing.
Despite all the new players arriving and players leaving we’re still miles away from what we once were.
We are a soft team who don’t have the heart to fight for a title.
There’s a few players who have the fight but that’s not enough when 70% of our players heads drop as soon as the going gets tough.
Pep’s not entirely blameless today either.
He picked a great starting line up but the subs were piss poor and far too late.
I took the dogs out at the 85th minute cos I knew we didn’t have the fight to win that game, let alone draw it, so I went out to save me getting even more angry.
Get Fernandinho back, maybe he can teach the team how to fight, have heart and desire, but most importantly show them how not to get bullied.
We look world class when things are going well but as soon as it’s time to stand up and be counted we hide.
What we were and what we are now is night and day.
That performance today shows we’re still miles off it.

Yeah surprised me today that he wasn’t commanding the corners like he did so well against Arsenal.
On a separate note, yet another team who deliver wicked corners unlike us
I thought the Savinho short one was a particular highlight, and all credit to the set piece coach, wherever he’s working…

Who have we got that can Man up to there midfield enforcers?
I would have played Stones with Nico G and taken Silva off….but given his poor performance could have equally left Silva on and hooked Foden…..other option would have been to move NOR alongside NG, subbed Silva, and put RAN at LFB….

A great game and a great advert for the league.
We had enough chances to win, and didn't take them, and they had chances too.
We were the better side, but they were excellent, very physical, and the referee allowed them a bit too much leeway.
I don't think you change a team that has been so good, and I think the starting lineup was bang on.
I definitely thought we should have had a penalty and would have gone on to win had we scored that.
Onward - we are definitely a team in progress.

I think we are just at a stage of our rebuild where at home we will win more than our fair share. With the Etihad crowd giving the support and being the 12th man I think helps us.

Unfortunately we are still not a top side and have many issues the most obvious being that we don’t keep the ball as well as we used to and we struggle to take the sting out of games away from home when the momentum is going against us.

I think we will get better over time but in the here and now we have certain players who aren’t good enough to win a league title, yet.

It’s a shame but this year a proper title challenge I think is a stretch too far. Hopefully Arsenal drop points though and we stay in touch but 4 defeats in 12 games is not title winning form.

Defo dodgy....

All this moaning about VAR, poor reffing etc is a smokescreen, we were wank today, lets not pretend otherwise and it was not for the first time this season. And, lets have it right, we are perfectly happy with dodgy VAR decisions that go our way, so today it might have gone the other way, so boo-hoo. The reality is that, away from home, we lack the balls for a fight. When the going gets tough, we scarper! Until we sort that out, we can forget the title.
