Newcastle United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

It’s commendable, but Foden doesn’t do us many favours in terms of winning penalties.

If he goes down and stays down clutching his ankle after that challenge, he forces the issue and the penalty gets awarded, imo.

Shouldn’t be the case, but unfortunately it is.

Don’t get me wrong, I like gonzalez he’s a kid who you can see is trying to make the most of his talent, but he hasn’t got the capacity to be the player he needs to be week in week out, to win the prem.

Tidy on the ball, plays simple stuff, but it’s not good enough to make up for lack presence, power and pace.

I think we’re on the same page in that we recognise we need to be more physical, I think I’m less confident these players will ever reach that point where it’s enough to win titles.

Eventually all of the players and some will leave before we win our next league in my eyes.
I disagree on Nico G....I think he has made huge strides even in the last 10 games...he may lack pace but he has the physiscal presence (besides Rodri in midfield he is the only one that does).

Our wide options besides Doku are very poor. Reijnders has also been a huge disappointment so far and is adding nothing -he has pace and aint small and has good technical ability but does he have the bollocks to back it up in a fight...Im not sure.

Agree that this side aint good enough to win the league and the recruitment has been suspect.....Sav has a huge question mark against his name which is only getting bigger, Reijnders has been very poor so far, Cherki has a hell of a lot of talent but as I said when we bought him it will be whether he wants to add the physicality into his game....he cant just drift around doing flicks here and there...Alt Nouri although he has played very little has also been very suspect when on the pitch...he is being kept out of it by a kid who is a number 10 in reality and that says a lot. His attitude (RAN;s) from what ive seen (again limited Ill admit) has been shocking...no commitment or desire to fight for anything .

Just one of those games that comes along ever now and then. We didn't put our chances away, and then get stuffed by a couple of really contentious var decisions.

We're still one of only a few teams in his league with the ability to go on some kind of winning run. If Foden or Haaland scores with one of the earlier chances then it's a different game.

Cherki I agree needs to up his game defensively, he's very well suited to playing against low blocks and has incredible creativity, but that wasn't the game yesterday. I do wonder if we can find a way to squeeze Marmoush into that forward 4 given his preference for shooting rather than faffing around.

What was disappointing was our bench didn't change things for us. I think Savinho got one cross on which Haaland headed straight at Nick "the professional time waster and part time goalie" Pope. Nobody said, right I'm going to drag us level. We're used to that with Kevin, Yaya, now we've just not got it.

At least nobody can claim city are buying off the refs anymore, reckon Stockley Park was having an early Christmas doo and the drinks were flowing. Can just imagine two pissed up officials trying to draw a line from Dias' armpit, getting within a foot and saying that'll do.

And we're soft as fuck as a team , no leader , other sides would be surrounding the ref , we just shrug and get on with it
We surround the ref and it’s instant yellow and possibly red cards. The players know that, remember when Haaland got monstered by the lapdog media when Hooper pulled Grealish back when clean through against Spuds? Unless the club execs sort it out we have to suck it up.

Pep has created a whiteboard team of good players that try to do as they're told.
He demands total control - which is all well and good until they have innevitable off days and dips in form or the opposition set up to counter it. It’s also all well and good if they're all on it (like v Liverpool), but there are no personalities that you need when a blanket lull happens like yesterday. It was like watching the second spineless batting collapse in a few hours. In days of yore we'd have Yaya, Spanish Dave, KDB, Aguero et al to break whiteboard ranks, take the game by the scruff, shoot, beat a man, play the long ball. Pep would innevitably pull his bald head and do his donkey dance - you got the impression he had to tolerate the Yayas and KDBs because they were just too good, but at least someone would step up.
Posted last evening something similar and when I got in - it was all "get a grip", "It's only November" etc etc. We have some real Ostriches on here, don't know how they clap so hard with their heads in the sand. We're sterile, flat track bullies at times, that struggle far more than we should if one or two are off form.

This all comes down to what part of the shoulder/bicep area you use. If you look at the first pick and follow the line to the top of the arm its pretty much on the shoulder, the second image, even though elevated still looks accurate to where Dias was, they use the shirt sleeve ie the bicep.

The point being missed literally is the ball is bigger than a point added onto a screen.

The top of the ball would have been shoulder, the bottom the bicep. Would a goal be disallowed using that part of the body or a penalty given against a defender?

I've seen it quite a number of times .... it is WITHOUT DOUBT a penalty, it was a reckless tackle, Wayne Rooney said it should have been given on MOTD ... and the Newcastle player knew he'd got away with one there, you could see that with the sheer relief on his face when he wasn't pulled up by the VAR decision.

VAR was a disgrace, and proved beyond doubt there that it's still got a long way to go for it to be taken seriously.
It's not Var its the person looking at it.

Fucking hell man. You must play with some big balls (oooer missus)!

1) Gave them half a million complex instructions rather than a simple "get it on target".
2) Forgot to tell them to concentrate as soon as we equalised.
3) Brought on Savinho thus playing the final twenty minutes with 10 men.
Don't think any of those criticisms are valid., Savinho did surprising well when he came on and there's no evidence for the other two.

Poor recruitment, frightening when you look at the players we had and what we have now. Not sure who thought it would be a good idea to buy ‘project players’. Hopefully, with the signing of Gigi, the club will go back to buying elite players in the summer.

It's 'Gigio' I think but you seem very easily frightened - presumably you'd be happier with the dipper recruits?

Rugby League has their version of VAR right i think because the fans can hear the conversation between the ref and VAR officials where in football the fans hear nothing.

We are not privy to what the ref hears in his earpiece and that is the main problem i think. The ref is just a puppet who conveys the blatant VAR corruption in a contrived manner in order to to manipulate the outcome of the game, and this cost us the game imo.

Two stonewall pens denied and their offside goal was allowed to stand was and still is an absolutely fucking disgraceful. I can take being beaten by a better team on the chin but i can't take being cheated so fucking blatantly that I'm still just as annoyed and frustrated the morning after the game.

We were promised VAR would become clearer and better for the game. If anything it's getting more confusing as they keep making shit up as they go along. The bitter bent cunts may as well hand Arsenal the title now because we won't be allowed to win it going by yesterdays shit show of bent as fuck officiating!
It was a disgrace mate
