The Squad planning thread

If Stones is going I hope the club seriously look at Dan Ballard at Sunderland. Every time I've seen Sunderland highlights / Posts he's been the highlight. Was very good against Arsenal

We should make Van de Ven our top priority with Stones and Ake likely to leave.

Bring in Livramento, Anderson and a genuine goal scoring winger and we're back.

Easier said than done, mind.
Van de Ven
Livramento
Anderson
Semenyo

That’s quite the shopping list. Over £300m if rumoured prices are anything to go by

If we can get Semenyo and Anderson done in January we are laughing.

Although RB is clearly a priority that looks like a Livramento chase in the summer.

We still have versatility im the squad. Nico OR can get midfield minutes as we have cover at LB with Ait Nouri and Josko.

I just dont see Livramento desperate to move mate? I`d look at the likes of Singo, Fresneda and Read.

He still hasn’t signed that deal and if Newcastle don’t finish with European football he could. I think it’s worth the risk to wait especially as buying in Jan is hard.

Would be good to get someone with solid experience and Livramento has that in the Prem and CL.

Obviously alternatives and they are all good options.

upcoming transfer window we certainly need to add goal scoring winger, all rounder midfielder

Semenyo and Anderson would be my picks as of now

Rodrygo and Ederson would be my back-up picks

of course if we add rb then it would be perfect

i don't think Newcastle will budge and sell Livramento, so the best option would @richards30 mentioned players, especially Singo

If Rodri is going to keep struggling then we need to maybe get a deal done for Ederson? Anderson imo is going to be a summer transfer if indeed we can get him but Gonzalez is being run to the ground already!
We definitely need someone! When Rodri was our 6 every week we had periods of Phillips (was never good enough for us) and then Kova and Gundo in as a 6/8 hybrid.

I think everyone wants Rodri back he just needs time to recover so although it don’t work last time I think we need a 6/8 player again.

Anderson, Wharton, Ederson. Anyone.

Ederson sounds available, Wharton won’t be in Jan and I’m skeptical about Anderson on Jan but news of this rc may help if true.

If we're going to keep playing this way then we should bring Grealish back. If he came on instead of Savinho we'd have seen so much more control. The only one with any composure late on was Cherki. Grealish would have provided it too. He might not get any goals or assists but he gives players respite by keeping the ball, winning free kicks and relieving pressure.

I actually think Conor Gallagher would be a fantastic guy to get in January. Groan all you want, we need a dog in that midfield who will run all day and provide a platform for our creative players. Someone we can throw in there and fight when teams do their second half subs and up the physicality and we start floundering.

He's homegrown and available, patch up the squad with him in January then go for a marquee signing in the Summer.
And then when we buy the marquee signing, do we just say to Gallagher, thanks a lot you can run along now?

Is that how Football Manager works?

We need more than one midfielder of this type anyway and he'll be treated like anyone we sign if he plays well he'll keep getting picked and any new signing would have to dislodge him?

Nico is on the red line fitness wise, Rodri and Kova no date set to return. If we can get a player like Gallagher in January the 1st it gives us a lot of breathing space. Forest might go down if they lost Anderson in January, don't think it will be possible and it certainly won't happen in the first week of the transfer window.

Getting a home grown, PL proven, CL experienced mid twenties England International for 30 million in a position we desperately need cover is an absolute no brainer for me. Pep would have him, hes talked him up to the press in the past.

He's miles more suited to the role we are currently asking Bernardo to do, he'd start most games at the moment imo.

Might be just me (and might be because he isn't in form at the moment) but signing Semenyo feels a bit like a Wilfried Bony signing to me.

Elliot Anderson on the other hand is quality and desperately needed (highlighted even more last night when Nico G went off).

That said a proper goal scoring winger is very much needed. I know Rodrygo is badly out of form but if we could get him on the cheap, he has the pedigree to be a big player for us. You don't just lose that ability overnight.

On Livramento, I think he would be a quality signing too, just not at £80m

I think that whilst we have got a decent squad, over the past 3-4 years we've also had some terrible windows. Buying players that are either injury prone or simply not good enough to play the way we currently do, which doesnt mean they are bad players, but just dont suit us.
How many players in the current 11 / squad would get in our 100 point starting 11? 1? Certainly no more than that on current.

I dont want to get into the realms of chelsea having a never ending revolving door with players lasting 1 or 2 seasons, but to stop that, we have to buy better and smarter.
Looking at the current squad(including loanees elsewhere), these are the players id either keep, sell or loan.
(HG, next to player if they are homegrown)
*Edit* - this is talking about the summer window, not january (Im not that greedy ;) )
Goalkeeper
Donnurumma - KEEP
Trafford (HG) - KEEP (but may push for a move)
Ortega - SELL
Bettinelli - Keep(?)

Defenders
Gvardiol - KEEP
Dias - KEEP
Khusanov - KEEP
Stones(HG) - 50/50
Ake (HG) - SELL
Ait Nouri - KEEP
Nico O Reilly (HG) - KEEP
Rico Lewis (HG) - SELL
Nunes - SELL

Midfielders
Rodri - KEEP
Nico G - KEEP
Kalvin Phillips (HG)- SELL
Reijnders - KEEP
Kovacic - SELL
Bernardo - SELL
Foden (HG) - KEEP

Attackers
Haaland - KEEP
Cherki - KEEP
Bobb(HG) - KEEP / LOAN
Doku - Keep
Savinho - SELL
Marmoush - KEEP (But may push for move as never plays)

Loaned Players
Grealish - SELL
Akanji - SELL
Reis - Probably another loan needed
Nypan - LOAN
Echeverri - LOAN
Bah - LOAN

Looking at incoming sales maybe we might see;
Ake - 15M
Lewis - £25M
Kovacic - £7.5M
Bernardo - £15M
Savinho - £50M (please spurs)
Grealish - £30M
Akanji - £10M
Phillips - £5M

Would free up £150M ish of transfer budget, and surely over £1 million per week in wages.
If all those left we'd have a squad of 17 (including Stones and Bobb), with 5 Home grown.

Its clear we need alot more in the middle of the park, a solid right back, and some goals from outwide. Centre back i think is a problem too.
What i'd give to have a prime Fernandinho, Walker and Sterling back in the team...

Instant buys have got to be Anderson & Livramento.
I think Semenyo, whilst good, would be another player that doesnt hit the type of player that would be suited to us.

Yes its football manager esque, Yes i know in reality this isnt going to happen and Yes i do think its neccasary!

If we’re publicly contemplating O’Reilly playing in there, then we presumably have reservations about Rodri’s short-term availability, and then there are also questions marks over the fitness/availability of Ait-Nouri and also over whether Ake can still play left-back in a more open system.

The two games away to Crystal Palace and Real Madrid will soon test our credentials, and those are just 2 of the 6 left before the window opens. As things stand, I suspect we’ll attempt to muddle through with what we have, but how we fare in the 8 games in January might determine whether we go back into the market late again, as we did with Gonzalez. It could be that, if not going for home grown, we’ll wait to see how clubs stand in the European competitions before making any move.

Nobody is signing Grealish and paying his ridiculous wages, he'll more than likely be loaned out again.

Bernardo is leaving on a free.

Phillips again nobody is buying him it's a loan at best

Akanji will also probably be loaned out again and will leave on a free in 2027

Savinho? Tough one but Spurs won't be coming back they bought Xavi Simmons instead.

Ake could definitely fetch something as he's considered HG

Kovacic is another tough one maybe somebody in Saudi.

On top of these, Bobb and Stones would be gone for me.

I really don't see much generation in sales and we will probably need another 300m plus spend to sign replacements.
